Following a recent refurbishment, the Finch Bay Eco Hotel is looking fresh and breezy and due to its location on one of the island's prettiest beaches, is a great choice for guests who either want to have some relaxation time after a cruise around the Galapagos islands or as a land-based alternative.
Named after the famous Darwin Finches and surrounded by mangroves where iguanas make their nests, the Finch Bay Eco Hotel accommodates up to 52 guests in 27 air-conditioned guest rooms, with en-suite bathrooms and views over the gardens or to the ocean. There is a spacious outdoor pool, sometimes visited by friendly ducks, herons and pelicans. International and Galapagos-inspired menus are prepared daily by the chef, using the freshest ingredients.
The Galapagos is home to a wealth of fascinating wildlife and is a truly idyllic destination for lovers of nature and the outdoors. Various activities can be organised by the expeditions team at Finch Bay. The Finch Bay has its own motor yacht, the Sea Lion which visits nearby islands to view the native wildlife, swimming and snorkelling. Other activities on Santa Cruz island itself include mountain biking, scuba diving, visits to ranches where you can see giant tortoise, snorkelling, bird watching and kayaking.
The hotel is located on Santa Cruz, one of the main islands in the Galapagos on the other side of the harbour from the town of Puerto Ayora. It is only accessible by boat and there is a frequent water-taxi service available to take guests into town for a visit to the Charles Darwin Center, the fish market (a hangout for hungry pelicans and sealions) and a few low-key restaurants.
