Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary Tour
Explore the Cockscomb Nature Reserve on foot as you go on the hunt for wildlife, including the elusive jaguar. Begin with a nature hike and discover the medicinal properties of the region's plants, learning about the rainforest as you go!
Immerse yourself in nature as you leisurely explore a lush rainforest on foot and from the water. Your full-day adventure unfolds at the scenic Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, which features spectacular waterfalls, mountain views, nature trails, and some 300 species of birds. First set out on a nature hike to look for wildlife and medicinal plants, and to learn about the park's history as the world's first jaguar sanctuary. Look for animals such as margays, ocelots, pumas, tapirs, and deer as you trek through the forest. You may spot jaguar tracks, but the big cat remains elusive by day. After a picnic lunch, experience the rainforest from an entirely different perspective with a refreshing float downriver on an inner tube. Then hike to the waterfall, keeping an eye out for toucans, macaws, hummingbirds, egrets, and iguanas along the way. After taking an invigorating swim in the fall's cool mountain waters, head down to the river and go rock sliding along smooth boulders, an exciting way to end your visit.
