Rajasthan

Rajasthan's ancient patchwork of kingdoms – each with a distinct character – and its sheer number of iconic palaces, forts and havelis make it one of India's most fascinating states. It's the cultural heart of the country and the perfect place to begin your journey to the subcontinent.

Highlights include the capital, Jaipur, the hugely impressive Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, the desert stronghold of Jaisalmer and the stunning lake city of Udaipur. However, beyond the cities lie the rural heartlands, with local markets and a way of life that hasn’t changed in centuries.

A destination in its own right, Rajasthan is a magical place. And our travel experts have uncovered its best-kept secrets for you to experience. Tell us what your dream luxury holiday in Rajasthan looks like and we'll craft a bespoke itinerary that caters to your every desire.

“For first-time visitors, the ‘Golden Triangle’ of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur is a must. Memorable moments from my recent journey through Rajasthan include sipping sundowners in a private fort in Shahpura and a sunrise tour of the Jaipur flower market, giving an incredible glimpse into local life.”

FAQs About Holidays to Rajasthan, India

  • When is the best time to visit Rajasthan?

The best times to visit Rajasthan are from February to April and October to November. The weather is mild and comfortable during these periods, which is ideal for travelling, sightseeing and viewing wildlife in national parks. December and January are popular times to visit but mornings and evenings can be very cool during these months.

July to September is the rainy season. While Rajasthan doesn't get as much rainfall as other regions of India, the vast majority of the rain it does get occurs during this period. But if you don't mind the humidity, you'll get to enjoy an even more colourful landscape.

  • When is the best time to go to Ranthambore?

The best time to visit Ranthambore National Park depends on the type of experience you want. The weather is mild and pleasant from November to April, helping you stay comfortable on safari. The park is especially lush and green at this time, as it follows the monsoon season when the park has abundant wildlife.

While tiger sightings are possible year-round, the period from April to June is considered the best time to see tigers in Ranthambore. This is when vegetation that camouflages tigers thins out under the summer heat, and they become more active in search of water and prey. But bear in mind that summer temperatures reach up to 45°C, which can be uncomfortable for visitors.

Note that zones 1-5 of the park are closed to visitors from July to September due to the rainy season.

  • How many days should I stay in Ranthambore?

Most guests find that between two and four days is enough time to explore the park and see a range of animals. But you could easily spend a week there if you're an avid wildlife enthusiast.

Ultimately, the ideal length of stay in Ranthambore National Park depends on what you want to get out of the experience. Let us know how long you'd like to stay, and we'll tailor your itinerary.

  • When is the best time to visit Jaipur?

The best time for holidays to Jaipur is from November to March, as these months during India's winter season offer the most pleasant weather for sightseeing in comfort.

  • When is the best time to visit Udaipur?

The best time for holidays to Udaipur is during the winter months from September to March. During this period, the pleasant weather is ideal for sightseeing, allowing you to fully enjoy the city's finest attractions.

  • How long are your Rajasthan tours?

Our luxury tours are bespoke, so they can be as long as you want. Many of our guests find that 10-13 days is plenty of time to see the best of Rajasthan, but we'll tailor your itinerary to suit how much time you have and everything you want to see.
