Jinpyokaku Honten

Established in 1901, Jinpyokaku is a historic onsen ryokan loved by many writers and artists such as

Yasunari Kawabata and Soseki Natsume. With only 6 rooms, this is a quiet and traditional option and a great base from which to explore the mountains.

Yudanaka, Japan
Jinpyokaku Honten
  • A small and intimate ryokan, not far from Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, where Japanese macaques can be seen bathing in and around hot spring onsens

  • There are both indoor and outdoor hot spring onsens at the ryoken, the perfect place to unwind at the end of the day

  • There are only 6 rooms, so the property feels intimate and homely

  • Beautiful tatami mat floors and futon beds for a truly authentic Japanese experience

Located in Kambayashi Onsen, Jinpyokaku Honten is a brilliantly located and traditional onsen ryokan in easy reach of Yudanaka and the Japanese macaques. More widely known as the 'Snow Monkeys', the Japanese macaques are often seen bathing in the hot spring onsens near Yudanaka, which are particularly photogenic in the winter when they look very relaxed. The area is also fantastic in autumn and spring.

Kambayashi Onsen sits just behind Yudanaka and is within easy reach of Tokyo by train. Jinpyokaku ryokan only has 6 rooms in total, so it has a very intimate and traditional feeling with beautiful tatami floors and futon beds. The indoor and outdoor hot spring onsens are ideal after a day our exploring the mountains on foot or by bike, and so too the delicious locally sourced food served in the evenings. Expect dishes such shinshu-gyu bee, local sake and rice grown in nearby Nagano.
