Kuching

Kuching is the capital of Borneo’s Sarawak district, located on the banks of the Sarawak River, to the northwest of Borneo. The city was the base of the ‘White Rajah’ British dynasty, who ruled Sarawak from 1841 until 1946, and it has always been an important trading port. Kuching is also close to two impressive national parks; Bako and Kubah, as well as the Semenggok Orangutan Centre.

Kuching

Malaysia is often referred to as a cultural melting pot, and Kuching is a perfect example of this. Within the city, visitors will find a mixture of Colonial buildings from the ‘White Rajah’ era, Chinese temples and Indian mosques, as well as colourful markets and winding shopping streets, selling spices and fresh produce, much of which is unique to Borneo. On the outskirts of the city, traditional Malay villages, known as kampongs, line the river.
