The GHL Hotel Lago Titicaca is set on the banks of Lake Titicaca only 5 minutes from the nearby town of Puno. The GHL is the most comfortable hotel in the city of Puno itself, although it is important to note that it is not a deluxe hotel.
The 111 rooms and 12 suites have air-conditioning, television and minibar and are simply finished but reasonably comfortable and all have panoramic views of the lake, great for enjoying the beautiful sunrises. Other facilities include sauna, Jacuzzi and gym as well as a bar and a restaurant serving both Peruvian and international dishes.
The location itself is unique, on the banks of Lake Titicaca, where you can visit the artificial floating "totora" islands of the Uro Indians, the ancient inhabitants of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. A full day excursion can also be made to the island of Taquile, located 24 miles from Puno. The island is inhabited by 1,600 Quechua speaking Indians. On the island one can visit Pre-Inca ruins and see the ancient communal way of life of the local people. Nearby Puno has a lively market in amongst its narrow streets, selling an array of produce and handicrafts.
When to visit
The lake looks most magical at sunset or sunrise, take a walk out onto the mirador for one of the most breathtaking views of Titicaca in Puno.
