Uncover the remote Andean landscapes, communities, and condors of the stunning Colca Canyon at Puqio, a stylish tented camp in a majestic setting overlooking this vast gorge, northwest of Arequipa. With a sustainable vision, attentive staff, glorious views, and freshly prepared gourmet food, Puqio is aimed at the discerning traveller
looking to experience authentic Peru. The camp offers the opportunity to walk a path less travelled, learning about traditional Andean life and culture from the extensive knowledge of carefully selected artisans, naturalists, and local experts. With just four tents and four adobe rooms, the ambiance is intimate and personal. Guests can choose from three room categories, but all are infused with rustic elegance and include a fully equipped bathroom, desk and seating area, firewood stove, in-wall heating, two camping wardrobes, a safety deposit box, speakers, handheld radio, and flashlight. The most spacious accommodation is Carpa Refugio offering a large living area and terrace, along with a separate mud room, outdoor shower, and bathtub. Carpa has similar facilities but no mud room. Alternatively, Pirca accommodation offers simple adobe rooms with bathtub, wood-burning stove, and private outdoor terrace. Pirca rooms can also be connected for families or larger groups via a shared mud room. Rates include an Andean exploration outfit, complimentary shoe cleaning and ironing, the services of private guides and vehicles (shared with other camp members), bicycles and exploration equipment. Also included are shared transfers to and from Arequipa and Titilaka, along with all shared excursions. The camp is all-inclusive, and guests can enjoy freshly prepared gourmet Andean cuisine cooked in clay ovens and over naked flames, as well as beverages, including in-room snacks and alcoholic drinks. Optional extras include premium drinks, laundry services, massage, and wellness treatments, as well as private transfers and excursions. Guests have a wealth of exclusive experiences to enjoy at Puqio including high-altitude trekking, birdwatching, learning about plant wisdom from a natural herbalist, soaking in the thermal waters of Uyo Uyo and visiting some of the area’s most accomplished weavers. All trips are customisable to guests’ preferences and interests. Puqio also has a yoga tent enjoying the same spectacular views as the rest of the camp. Along with trekking, guests can enjoy mountain biking and horse riding. Additional chargeable activities include lake fishing, a photography safari and trip to Cusco.
Puqio is located around 3-hours north of Arequipa, 15-minutes from Yanque and 25-minutes from Chivay in the Colca Canyon. Tikilaka is around 6-hours, while Cusco is an 8-hour drive away. Owing to the high altitude (3,600m above sea level), weather patterns can be unpredictable, and the nights are generally cold. We recommend both layered and waterproof clothing for the rainy season (November to April).
