Golden Triangle

Describing the area where Laos, Myanmar and Thailand meet at the confluence of the Ruak and Mekong Rivers, the Golden Triangle is a land of impenetrable jungle, mist-swathed mountains, hill tribes and endless rice fields. The hillsides are dotted with remote villages, while a number of ancient cities offer up tantalising glimpses of the powerful kingdoms that once controlled this area.

Golden Triangle

The sleepy river town of Chiang Saen reveals ruins of these former rulers, with chedi (stupas), Buddhist statues and city walls, while the 13th century Chiang Rai is home to a wealth of Lanna culture, and the city’s most revered temple, Wat Phra Kaew. Alongside such cultural heritage, head into the hills to experience the stunning scenery by bike, hiking and along the course of the Mekong River.
