Average time to visit

It is very difficult to predict the weather in the United Kingdom - in the summer from May to late September is generally seen as the most pleasant time to visit. Rainfall is difficult to predict - but the UK does not receive as much as many are led to believe! In the winters, temperatures do fall, but there is nothing better than finding a remote pub with a roaring fire to sit beside after a long walk in the country.

Itinerary

Day 1-3

Edinburgh, Scotland

Your action-packed Scottish family adventure begins in the vibrant city of Edinburgh, staying at its most iconic hotel, The Balmoral. Located right in heart of the city on Princes Street, all of Edinburgh's highlights are within an easy walk.

Begin your exploration of Edinburgh with a visit to Edinburgh castle, the mighty stronghold which sits atop a hill overlooking the city. Learn about the previous royal residents of this grand home, alongside the ferocious battles for power that have taken place here over the years. For something extra-special, we can also arrange for you to visit the castle before it is open to the public.

Next we have a truly unique way for you to explore the rest of the city, whisking your way around the narrow streets in an iconic Mini Cooper car. Take in the highlights of the city in a fun and engaging way, ending up in one of Scotland's oldest pubs.

Accommodation: The Balmoral, a Rocco Forte Hotel ( 2 nights )
Day 3-6

Isle of Eriska, Oban, West Scotland

From Edinburgh, head west with your private driver, crossing The Trossachs and enjoying the stunning Highland scenery.

The next stop is a private tour of Inverary castle, one of Scotland's fiercest strongholds and a picture-perfect castle featuring imposing turrets and stunning gothic architecture.

Your home for the next 3 nights is a private island, accessible by bridge, off the coast of Oban. Surrounded by waters and mountains, the Isle of Eriska is an adventurer's playground and a haven for wildlife. We've included a private archery lesson for the whole family, as well as a private rib boat which will take you over to the Isle of Mull. Keep your eyes peeled as Mull is home to seals, porpoises, otters and a range of sea bird. If you are lucky you may even spot a puffin flying to one of the neighbouring islands.

Accommodation: Isle of Eriska Hotel ( 3 nights )
Day 6-8

Perthshire, Scotland

Arriving back on the mainland, a stop at the beautiful Glencoe for a guided walk is a must, where, accompanied by a local ranger, you'll explore Scotland's most famous Glen, with it's dramatic mountain scenery.

From Glencoe, the journey to your final stop takes around 2 hours, with plenty of opportunities to stop should you wish to admire the beautiful scenery along the way. One of Scotland's most iconic hotels, Gleneagles is lovingly referred to as "A Glorious Playground for all Generations", and when you arrive you'll soon understand why. Surrounded by rolling hills Gleneagles is home to 3 championship golf courses, a Falconry school, an equestrian school, 5 world-class restaurants and much more!

We've included a family falconry lesson, as well as a visit to the ferret school, where you'll get up close to the animals for an engaging, interactive encounter sure to delight the whole family. The expert handlers will teach you a number of techniques and commands so you can experience these fascinating animal's true capabilities.

For your final activity as a family, we've included a truly Scottish treat, with a visit to a local family-run organic Highland farm, where you'll learn about the local culture for farmers in the area, meeting their herd of Aberdeeen Angus cattle, before enjoying an optional steak tasting.

On your final day your private driver will take you to Edinburgh airport for your onward journey, where you'll leave full of treasured memories of your family Scottish adventure.
