Named in honour of the Norwegian explorer, Fridtjof Nansen, who led the first crossing of Greenland on cross-country skis, HX’s MS Fridtjof Nansen is leading the way in sustainable expedition cruising. The ship, together with sister ship, MS Roald Amundsen, is fully hybrid which reduces fuel consumption and cuts CO2 emissions by up to 20%. Onboard, the interior design and décor is rooted in the clean lines, elegant sophistication and high-quality finishes that reflect the ship’s Scandinavian heritage, while the shared public spaces have a relaxed and friendly vibe.
There are 265 cabins sleeping a maximum of 530 guests (500 on Antarctic cruises to meet IAATO regulations). All boast an understated style and neutral palette, infusing the space with calm and tranquillity. All are sea-facing and include an ensuite with shower and bathing amenities, TV, Wi-Fi, safe, and tea and coffee making facilities. Please be aware that the Starlink-powered Wi-Fi is not suitable for streaming and connectivity can be compromised while sailing in remote regions. Choose from three main cabin categories, from entry level Polar Outside to the more spacious Arctic Superior and Expedition Suites. Additional benefits for Suite guests include a seating area, optional private balcony and hot tub, and complimentary fine dining in the Lindstrøm Restaurant.
The two main dining options, Aune and Fredheim are both stylish and relaxed, serving both buffet-style and seated table meals, with an open-seating policy. For fine dining, non-Suite guests can pay an additional charge to enjoy the superb cuisine of Lindstrøm. House wines, beers, soft drinks, beverages and all gratuities are included, although there is the option to trade up to a premium drinks package.
Daily excursions and activities are also included and can involve small boat trips on the ship’s fleet of inflatables, hiking and community visits. The handpicked Expedition Team are all experts in their field and bring all the excursions to life with their knowledge and passion. There’s a Mud Room for gear and equipment and all guests on polar sailings receive a complimentary HX expedition jacket, backpack and water bottle. These, together with a complimentary digital photo album and video, make great souvenirs of the voyage.
Back onboard, guests can enjoy a programme of talks in the lecture spaces and deepen their knowledge in the onboard Science Centre. This state-of-the-art facility includes touch screens, a library, speciality areas for workshops and guidance from the Expedition Team. The Nansen has everything required for onboard relaxation including a pool deck with infinity pool, hot tubs and a bar, along with a fitness and wellness suite with gym, sauna, and spa. The impressive Observation Deck spans two levels and includes indoor/outdoor areas for prime wildlife and scenery viewing, while the Explorers Lounge & Bar provides a relaxing space for a drink.
