Fly to Iguazu via Buenos Aires

Get your trip off to a flying start with a big bucket list tick – the dramatic and life-affirming spectacle of Iguazu Falls. Straddling the border between Argentina and Brazil and stretching for almost three kilometres, the sheer scale of this thundering wall of water defies the imagination. Argentina is blessed with about 80% of this natural marvel’s 275 separate cascades, and an intricate network of walkways means you can navigate the whole thing accompanied by one of our expert local guides. Stand still and feel the spray on your skin. Shut your eyes and soak up the deafening sound of the water crashing down beneath you. Appreciate the power of nature in all its glory. Your base for the next two nights is the Loi Suites, located in a peaceful jungle setting. With views of the jungle canopy from every room and an atmospheric swimming pool shrouded by the forest, it provides a wild retreat in which to relax away from the roar of the falls.

Ibera Wetlands, Northeastern Argentina, Argentina
Travel deep into the heart of the Ibera Wetlands, a drive which can take up to eight hours. As the long journey suggests, you’re entering one of Argentina’s most remote reaches. Prepare for the call of the wild. Tucked away in the northwest of the country, the Ibera Wetlands are the second largest wetlands in the world after Brazil’s Pantanal. You’ll spend three nights at Estancia Rincon del Socorro, a former cattle ranch and a driving force in the conservation project that sought to restore the pristine wilderness of these vast wetlands. This Rewilding Project is at the core of many of the lodge’s activities. Throw yourself into the sprawling wetlands on foot, bike or horseback and discover the myriad of wildlife that call these swampy marshes home, many of whom have been reintroduced in recent years. Navigate the endless network of channels or streams by boat or dugout canoe, and keep your eyes peeled for alligators, pampas deer and endearing capybaras. As night falls, this vast ecosystem comes to life with all manner of nocturnal species, so wrap up warm and head out on a night drive under dark starry skies. This wet and wild wonderland is sure to capture your heart.

Today you will be transferred to Posadas for your flight to Buenos Aires, where you’ll be thrust into the frenetic energy of this cosmopolitan city. Spend two nights at Hotel CasaSur Palermo, a chic hotel with an enviable location in the heart of the Palermo district. You’ll have plenty of time to explore this fast-moving city at your own pace, but we’ve included two experiences that we think will enrich your stay. On your first night we’ll book you a table at Café de los Angelitos where you’ll be dazzled by the passion and precision of some of the city’s most esteemed tango dancers while you devour a delicious three-course dinner. The following day, delve deeper into the streets of Palermo and discover the history of the Argentinean food scene on the Chimichurri Walking Food Tour. You’ll stop at five different food shops or restaurants and savour more than 30 tastings, including of course, a succulent serving of steak.

Puerto Madryn, Peninsula Valdes, Argentina
Fly to Peninsula Valdes to continue your exploration of Argentina’s wildest frontiers. Windswept beaches, sheltered bays and crumbling cliffs define this eco-wonderland, home to a profusion of rare and unique fauna. Choose when to travel based around the wildlife calendar. From August to December the peninsula is home to a breeding population of endangered southern right whales, who seek shelter in the bay and swim right up to the beach. From September to April, one of the largest colonies of Magellanic penguins come to the beaches to incubate their eggs and prepare their offspring for migration.

El Calafate, Southern Patagonia, Argentina
Swap the wildlife-rich water of Peninsula Valdes for the hostile yet strikingly beautiful environment of southern Patagonia. Fly to El Calafate where you finish your adventure with two nights at the cosy boutique Hotel Esplendor El Calafate. The jewel in the region’s crown is the mesmerising splendour of Perito Moreno Glacier. You’ll have a full day to lean into its captivating spirit. Your guide will meet you early and drive you through the eerily spectacular landscapes of Los Glaciares National Park towards the vivacious blue hues of Perito Moreno – one of the world’s only advancing glaciers. Jump on board the Safari Nautico catamaran and embark on a lake navigation to the south wall of the glacier. Revel in an unrivalled perspective on this immense wonder from the water and absorb the drama as huge chunks of ice calve off into the lake below. Returning to shore, you’ll tuck into a picnic lunch on the walkways, with the glacier an ever-powerful backdrop to your feast.
