Worlds 50 Best Hotels

On Tuesday 19th September, the inaugural list of the World’s 50 Best Hotels was announced in a ceremony at London's Guildhall. An overwhelming number of the winners sit within our curated collection of hotels across the world, so our Travel Specialists decided to narrow down their top 10 favourite properties. Read on to find out why these hotels have topped our list of the “best of the best”. Plus, get some insider tips from our Travel Specialists who have experienced these properties first-hand.

Passalacqua, Italy – No.1 & Best Hotel in Europe

Why we love it:

Passalacqua is a magnificent luxury villa on the banks of Lake Como, officially crowned the best hotel in the world. It opened its doors in June 2022 after a meticulous restoration process and has quickly become the go-to destination for in-the-know travellers. We can’t think of a more idyllic spot for a sublime Italian getaway filled with al fresco lunches and afternoon lakeside swims.

Soneva Fushi, Maldives – No. 7 & Best Beach Hotel

Why we love it:

Soneva Fushi is the ultimate Robinson Crusoe island in the Maldives, with a laidback philosophy of ‘no news, no shoes’. Each of the resort’s 53 villas is exquisite in its own way, but I always book one of the sunrise-side villas for my guests as these offer the most privacy. For an unforgettable dining experience, zipline directly to the resort’s treetop Flying Sauces restaurant.” - Jules Maury, Head of Scott Dunn Private

Singita Lodges in the Kruger National Park, South Africa – No.15 & Best Eco Hotel

Why we love it:

"Following rhino tracks on foot and crouching less than 100m from three of these fascinating animals was a highlight of my recent stay at Singita Lebombo and still gives me goosebumps to recall. This incredible lodge is home to one of Africa’s most exceptional guides, Brian Rode. Thanks to his expertise, a safari here is guaranteed to deliver some truly unforgettable wildlife encounters.” - Gina Waygood, Private Travel Manager

Nihi Sumba, Indonesia - No. 18

Why we love it:

"For me, what makes Nihi Sumba so special is its sense of place. The resort’s unique experiences range from world-class surfing to the heavenly spa safari, all set to the backdrop of one of the most beautifully wild beaches you will ever see. A visit to Nihi's Sumba Foundation is a must-do during your stay, giving a glimpse into the positive impact the foundation has had on the lives of the Sumbanese people. - Hannah Mackie, Asia Specialist

Hotel Esencia, Mexico - No. 19

Why we love it:

Hotel Esencia is a chic boutique hideaway on Mexico’s Riviera Maya, originally constructed as the private home of an Italian Duchess. For total seclusion, we recommend booking the recently opened four-bedroom Esencia Mansion tucked away in the Mayan jungle with its own private swimming pool, elegant living areas, secret screening room and spacious rooftop terrace.

Borgo Egnazia, Italy - No. 21

Why we love it:

Borgo Egnazia is the ultimate family resort set along the Apulian coast of southern Italy. On a recent visit, I set off in a bright red vintage Alfa Romeo Spider through beautiful hilltop villages to the ancient town of Ostuni for a private walking tour. Back at the hotel, Chef Rocco guided us through a pasta-making class, perfecting our own orecchiette with homemade tomato sauce.” - Jake Woodward, Europe Specialist

Maybourne Riviera, France - No. 26

Why we love it:

A new addition to our curated collection of French hotels, the Maybourne Riviera is an architectural sensation built into a clifftop above Roquebrune-Cap-Martin on the French Riviera. Opened in 2022, our highlight of this modernist retreat is the incredible infinity pool. If swimming in the sea is more your style, the exclusive beach club – La Plage – is a destination in itself.

Gleneagles, Scotland – No.32 & Art of Hospitality Award

Why we love it:

There are few hotels in the world that offer the historic charm and breadth of adventures as Gleneagles, the quintessential Scottish countryside retreat. Embrace the great outdoors with an unrivalled array of activities from off-road driving to teeing off at the PGA Centenary Course. Be sure to pack your tweeds!

Badrutt’s Palace, Switzerland - No. 43

Why we love it:

Set on the shores of a crystal-clear lake in St Moritz, Badrutt’s Palace is famed for its stunning views and legendary service. No visit here is complete without experiencing the Palace Wellness spa, built into the mountainside and spanning three floors. It’s also heaven for skiers, with access to some of the world’s best high-altitude skiing.

Oberoi Amarvilas, India - No. 45

Why we love it:

“My stay at Oberoi Amarvilas was without a doubt one of the highlights of a recent trip around Rajasthan. Designed by renowned architect Bill Bensley, every single room in the property is blessed with unobstructed views of the Taj Mahal. From dawn to dusk, you can watch this magical palace transform as the light changes, all from the comfort of your luxurious bed or private balcony.” - Hannah Dawson, Private Relationship Manager
