Makgadikgadi Pans
The extraordinary landscape of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans extends out as far as the eye can see, its lunar-like terrain the remains of a vast lake that covered much of the country millions of years ago. Its glistening white surface is scattered with fossils charting the changing ecosystem of this ancient landscape, where meetkats pop up and brown hyena stalk their prey.
Expect a different experience in the dry and wet seasons; come for candyfloss clouds of pink flamingos and Southern Africa's largest land migration of wildebeest and zebra in the wet season, and head out to the limitless horizon across the salt-crust on a quad-bike during the dry.
