South Africa is a year-round destination with Cape Town at its best from September to April. The summers are generally warm and dry, while winters tend to be cool and temperate. Neither season experiences extremes of temperature, thanks to prevailing winds. Summer (Nov-Mar) is the hottest with temperatures 20-40°C. Mid-season (Apr, May, Sep, Oct) temps between 10-30°C. Winter (from June- Aug) is the low season with temps 0-25°C.

Namibia is a year-round destination although seasonal variations may mean you prefer to travel in certain months. The main dry season runs from April until October, with temperatures rising throughout the year, making November and December the hottest months. From November until March, the rains fall and rivers flood and subside in a matter of hours, refilling vital underground water sources in this desert country. The early months of the year are beautiful if you don't mind the odd rain shower, with clear air, and desert flowers blooming to carpet the dunes in colour. Regardless of time of year, the temperatures fluctuate vastly from morning til night, so don't be surprised if there is frost on the ground in the mornings, and temperatures reach the thirties or forties in the daytime.

Botswana’s dry season runs from May to September, and the Okavango Delta is in flood between June and October, providing prime game-viewing as wildlife is generally restricted to islands and land by the heightened water. The weather during these months is hot during the day, but it isn't a stifling heat, and cold at night. The summer months (Nov - Mar) can be hot and humid and there is a chance of rain. Botswana has one rainy season which runs between mid-December and runs through to mid-March.

Day 1-4

Cape Town

Your Southern Africa journey begins in South Africa, in the vibrant, cosmopolitan city of Cape Town. Staying at the beautiful Cape Grace for three nights, you will have wonderful views over the Victoria & Albert Waterfront marina on one side of the hotel, and of Table Mountain on the other. Your first afternoon in the city will be taken at your leisure. On your second day we have included a full day guided tour of the city and Table Mountain. You will get up early to take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain where you will be greeted with the best panoramic views of Cape Town before you descend to wander through the inner city where your guide will focus on food, design, arts and crafts as you uncover sights such as Company’s Garden, Green Market Square and St George’s Cathedral. Your lunch stop includes a delicious Wild Picnic of local flavours and generous portions tailored to your liking in a stunning part of the city. After lunch your tour continues into the colourful streets of Bo-Kaap before ending at Bree Street where you will find artisan shops and bars. Your day ends with a tasting menu for dinner at The Greenhouse. The next day in the city is no less exciting with a full day tour exploring the beautiful Cape Peninsula. Starting at the fishing harbour Kalk bay you will have the chance to explore the arts and crafts and to do a little shopping. Next, you will head over to Simon’s Town to learn about the rich history of the area. Before heading to the Cape Peninsula, you will go in search of the Cape penguin at a splinter colony away from the crowded board walks. Lunch will be a private and elegant affair with a real emphasis on local ingredients, a local chef will pull out all the stops in an incredible location. The tour ends with a gentle hike in the Cape Peninsula Reserve before stopping off at Noordhoek Farm Village on your way back into the city. The evening ends at your leisure.

Accommodation: Cape Grace Hotel ( 3 nights )
Day 4-6

The Winelands, South Africa

This morning you will get up early for a helicopter flight and tour of Robben Island, the famous prison where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for 18 years. After this incredible tour you will be transferred to the Winelands where you will have a full day tour of the incredible wine region of South Africa. You will learn about the history and beautiful Cape Dutch architecture as you visit vineyards for some wine tasting along the way as well as browsing through Stellenbosch’s shops and museums. At the end of the tour you will be dropped off at the wonderful working farm Babylonstoren. With impressive vegetable gardens which guests are free to wander and pick and eat as they walk around, this property is like no other in the area. Farm animals are dotted around the farm and a wine tasting is available. A dam is also located on the property and we recommend grabbing a bike and cycling up there for an afternoon out on a canoe. Head out to explore the Winelands where you can spend a full day touring the best of the vineyards in the area, seeing some of the famous wineries as well as local hidden gems, sampling superb food along the way.

Accommodation: Babylonstoren ( 2 nights )
Day 6-9

Skeleton Coast, Namibia

From here you fly up to the dramatic Hoanib River in north western Namibia, your base for a different kind of desert adventure. Search for desert-adapted lion, elephant and giraffe on game-drives with expert guides and enjoy a full day trip out to the Skeleton Coast where you'll explore shipwrecks and huge seal colonies.

Accommodation: Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp ( 3 nights )
