Average time to visit

November to April is the best time of year to visit Arenal and is the 'drier' season in Costa Rica. The ‘green’ season is from May to September, which sees tropical showers most afternoons. The quietest period is April to early June. The rain can be particularly strong in September and October. December to March is high season and hotels do get booked up months in advance so best to plan early.

Itinerary

Day 1-4

Arenal, Costa Rica

Upon arrival at San José (SJO) Airport, transfer to Nayara Gardens, a serene retreat surrounded by lush tropical gardens with stunning views of Arenal Volcano. This elegant property features charming casitas and villas with canopied beds, outdoor showers, private decks with jacuzzis, and access to a tranquil pool with a swim-up bar and open-sided restaurant.

Dining options include La Terraza (Costa Rican and international dishes), Asia Luna (Peruvian-Asian fusion), and Nostalgia, a wine and tapas bar offering curated tasting menus. Wildlife like monkeys, sloths, and toucans are frequently seen, adding to the magical rainforest ambiance.

This region offers thrilling outdoor activities such as white-water rafting, ziplining, canyoning, and hiking. Relaxation is equally easy with trips to nearby hot springs and Lake Arenal.

Your adventure includes Arenal Sky Walk, a guided suspension bridge loop offering incredible rainforest views and wildlife sightings, and the Arenal Volcano Hike, which takes you through the rainforest and across a 1968 lava flow, ending at a scenic viewpoint overlooking Arenal Lake.

Experience the Rainforest Chocolate Experience, an interactive tour exploring the history and production of chocolate from bean to bar, culminating with the chance to taste organic chocolate.

Nayara Gardens offers the perfect combination of luxury, adventure, and natural beauty for the start of your Costa Rican journey.
