Despite its unattractive exterior, the Movenpick Resort Aswan is a comfortable hotel with excellent facilities and is well-located for sightseeing, in Aswan. Elephantine Island itself has a history stretching back to 3000 BC when settlement on the island began, and was a central part of Aswan life. There are some fascinating and extensive ruins at the southern end of the island as well as two Nubian villages which give a good idea of modern-day Upper Egyptian life.

The Movenpick Resort's rooms overlook the Nile on both sides of the island, either towards Aswan or Kitchener's Island and the Botanical Gardens. The Panorama Restaurant also has fantastic views from the 13th floor, and is open for afternoon tea and dinner. As the Movenpick Resort is located on an island, it is reached by boat giving it a unique setting the ferry shuttles backwards and forwards every ten minutes. The rooms are very comfortable, containing safes and minibars, and available with either king or twin beds. There are Royal Villas overlooking Kitchener's Island to the west which have two bedrooms and are ideal for families.

Wifi is complimentary in the Movenpick Resort's lobby and restaurants while in the bedrooms, guests must use a wired connection which is chargeable.

The Movenpick Resort Aswan has three restaurants, from the main restaurant Orangerie which has both buffet and a la carte options and an open kitchen concept so that guests can watch their food being prepared. Outside there is a pool-side restaurant which serves light bites and barbecue dishes as well as the famous Movenpick ice-cream and fresh drinks. The Panorama Bar and restaurant is an ideal setting for a romantic dinner. There is also a lounge bar outside the main restaurant serving drinks and snacks.

There is a kids club open to children between the ages of 4 and 12 years unaccompanied (under 4 years need to be accompanied by a babysitter or parent). There is a large swimming pool and a tennis court.

Scott Dunn can organise sightseeing, including visits to the High Dam, the majestic Philae Temple, Aswan's markets and the unfinished obelisk.
