Temple of Horus & Kom Ombo

As you make your way between Luxor and Aswan, make a visit to Temple of Horus in Edfu as well as Kom Ombo, where you will find a huge temple dedicated to the God Sobek and Harocies.

Temple of Horus Kom Ombo

Navigate towards Edfu and visit the Temple of Horus, the largest sanctuary built during the period of King Ptolemy. The sun-deity Horus, typically portrayed as a falcon, is one of the most iconic deities of ancient Egypt as one of the chief deities and the son of Osiris. Its bas-reliefs give a vivid picture of life in ancient Egypt.

The Temple of Kom Ombo stands at a bend in the Nile where, in ancient times, sacred crocodiles basked in the sun on the riverbank. One half of the temple is dedicated to the falcon-headed god Haruris, and the other half to the crocodile god Sobek.
