Chichicastenango Market
The pretty highland town of Chichicastenango is famed for holding the biggest and best market in Guatemala, where indigenous peoples come from all over the area to sell their wares. Spend a full day exploring the maze of stalls and observing local life.
Everything is on offer at Chichicastenango, from brightly embroidered cloths and beautiful bags to medicinal plants and ceramic crafts. The food produce is also just as incredible as the crafts and the colourful array of traditional dress worn by the indigenous women makes for stunning photography. Santo Tomas church overlooks the market place, steeped in Mayan history and ritual flower sellers use the steps to set up shop.
