With Florence just fifteen minutes down the road, Il Salviatino is a luxurious retreat, complete with stunning panoramas across the wooded hillsides of Fiesole to the iconic skyline of the city. The pretty terrace where breakfast and dinner are served boasts enviable views towards the Duomo, as do many of the rooms.
Lovingly restored, the building was originally a 15th century villa and the decor today contains many nods to the hotel's past. Antique bath tubs feature in some rooms, while the walls are covered with valuable artworks and dotted with 19th-century frescoes. Rooms are spacious and feature rich woods, large beds and silver candelabras.
The kitchen, aptly named La Cucina, serves local produce that has either been sourced locally or grown in the hotel's own organic garden. During the summer months there is also waiter service throughout the day around the pool area, which is located in a peaceful part of the garden. The spa, one of the hotel's big draws, is also to be found here and offers an incredible array of pampering treatments.
Fiesole itself is a charming town flanked by green hillsides, within a 30-minute walk of the hotel. For something a little different the kitchen would be happy to prepare a picnic for you so you can spend a leisurely day exploring the walking trails in the countryside around the town. Of course Florence is tantalisingly close and the hotel's complimentary shuttle bus means the famous sights of the Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, the Campanile and the Uffizi, among many others, are within each reach.
