Begin your day in San Angel in the south of Mexico City, a charming and traditional neighbourhood which feels almost cut off from the hustle and bustle of the historical centre. Colourful houses in toybox colours line cobbled streets, spreading outwards from leafy central plazas. The area is rich with history and your private guide will bring to life the stories of its inhabitants as you wander around and soak in the sights and smells. If visiting on a Saturday you will be able to experience the fantastic artisan market which draws in locals from all over the city.
Following lunch in San Angel, continue to the historic neighbourhood of Coyoacán, its buildings protected by their historic status and perfectly bordered by picturesque tree-lined streets. Visit the church and admire the range of architectural styles which can be seen throughout, with Arab influences presiding.
From here, the house of renowned Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera provides a memorable final stop. The famous blue house is a treasure trove of Frida's lifetime of work and poignant artefacts from her tragic life are a reminder of the painter's suffering. Observing her art and the house in which she lived and died provides the most fascinating insight to Frida's story and her tempestuous relationship with muralist Diego Rivera.
