Average time to visit

Itinerary

Day 1-4

Muscat, Oman

The first thing you’ll note upon arrival in Muscat, the bustling capital city on the Omani coast, is how low-key and less glitzy it is compared to its more obnoxious neighbours, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Your driver will be waiting for you at the airport, ready to whisk you off to your chic and luxurious coastal retreat. Perfectly positioned between rugged mountains and gorgeous azure waters, on a lovely stretch of sand overlooking the Gulf of Oman, The Chedi Muscat is a stylish contemporary resort, echoing elegant white Moorish design combined with Far Eastern influences. It’s the ideal spot to help ease you into your adventure, and with the largest spa in all of Muscat this shouldn’t be a problem! Did we mention the outrageously sexy, 103-metre-long swimming pool lined with palm trees and ocean views?

With three nights here, there’s plenty of time to just kickback and unwind beside one of three outdoor pools whilst working your way through the cocktail list and deciding which of the six onsite restaurants to dine at that evening. Muttrah, the attractive looking old town, is well worth a visit and we’ve included a quick guided tour of its main highlights which include glittering mosques and colourful souks where you can practice you bartering skills. The crystal-clear warm waters offshore offer fantastic snorkelling and diving opportunities and you’ll spend one day out at sea onboard a boat in search of turtles, rays, dolphins and even whales.

Accommodation: The Chedi Muscat ( 3 nights )
Day 4-5

Wahiba Sands

It’s time to ramp up the excitement levels! Along with a guide you’ll take a drive out into the wild desert, with huge sand dunes measuring up to 100 meters high, photogenic multi-coloured sands, roaming Bedouin and plenty of camels, there’s lots to see. As you make the journey across the vast desert to your luxury tented camp in Wahiba Sands, there will be opportunities to stop for a refreshing swim in a cool wadi, which appears like a mirage and explore traditional dhow yards. The Desert Nights Camp is nestled between two large dunes and accommodation for the night is a fancy “Bedouin style” air-conditioned tent, perfect for those who like the idea of an intrepid adventure but prefer more comfortable surroundings. There’s plenty here for thrill seekers, with dune buggies and quad bikes available for tearing up the sands or enjoy a more leisurely ride on a camel. You could also put your own legs to the test with treks across the dunes and rugged mountain tracks to explore whilst stumbling across Bedouin tending to their livestock in the wilderness. The clear sky of the desert is perfect for star gazing, so after dinner why not cuddle up under a blanket and watch the constellations emerge before enjoying a candle lit game of cards.

Accommodation: Desert Nights Camp ( 1 night )
Day 5-8

Nizwa, Oman

After a peaceful night in the desert you will drive to Nizwa, the ancient capital of Oman, full of bustling markets and souks, historic forts and mosques. An hour’s drive from the city is your hotel, Alila Jabal Akhdar, and what a spectacularly scenic journey it is. Few hotels can boast a location as dramatic as this, in fact, it can only be reached by 4x4! The hotel is perched high up on a clifftop, above a 600-meter high gorge with jaw dropping views out over the Al Hajar Mountains. Fortunately, its wilderness setting does not mean compromising on comfort. Constructed from local stone and wood, it is designed to fit seamlessly into the surrounding landscape.

It is ideally positioned to explore Oman's rugged landscape and is the perfect escape for those looking for something a little quirky and different. You’ll have three days to suck up as much fresh mountain air as you can and whilst it’s very tempting to just laze around all day beside the stunning infinity pool or enjoy a series of therapy sessions at the spa, there is a heap of stuff to do as well. You could spend your time rock climbing and caving, hiking through canyons and clambering up to dizzyingly high peaks. There are eerie ghost villages built into the mountainside waiting to be explored and ancient castles and forts to discover. Of course, there is that pool with its tremendous views across the rugged mountains, not a bad spot to toast the sunset, glass in hand!

Accommodation: Alila Jabal Akhdar ( 3 nights )
Day 8-9

Muscat, Oman

Finally, your time in Oman is drawing to a close, but you will return to Muscat for your final night. We suggest you try the off-road route through Wadi Beni Awf to provide a fitting finale to the adventurous element of the trip. Back at the hotel, rinse off any debris sand, put on your best shirt and head out for a delicious final dinner in town, before your flight to Male in the Maldives the next morning.

Accommodation: The Chedi Muscat ( 1 night )
Day 9-14

North Male Atoll, Maldives

Today, jet off to the incredibly beautiful “photos don’t do it justice” Maldives, where you’ll spend the last part of your holiday in unparalleled luxury. With over 30 stunning resorts in the Scott Dunn collection, there’s plenty of amazing properties to choose from, and with the help of your dedicated travel consultant we will be able to find the perfect place for you. Relax, unwind, snorkel, swim and indulge to the maximum before (sadly) it’s time to head home.

Accommodation: Baros ( 5 nights )
