The south of Portugal has a mild climate with more that 300 days of sunshine a year. The weather generally warm and sunny in May with the risk of the odd shower of rain. Sometimes it can be cool in the evenings. By June the weather generally settles in a pattern of long hot sunny days and balmy evenings especially in July and August. Rain is unlikely but it can happen from time to time. Throughout the summer months it can be windy especially during the afternoon. June and September are particularly pleasurable months.

Day 1-4

Lisbon, Portugal

Begin your journey in Portugal's vibrant capital, Lisbon, and spend three nights at the boutique and contemporary Memmo Principe Real. Enjoy getting lost with your private guide in the winding, cobbled streets that lead through the city's hillside districts as you get under the skin of these distinct neighbourhoods, such as Chiado and Bairro Alto. Take one of the iconic yellow trams to explore this ancient city - one of the oldest in western Europe - and be sure to stop and savour a delicious pastel de nata or take in a traditional fado musical performance.

Those looking to venture outside the city could take time to explore the west with a day trip to Sintra. This fascinating town is home to a breathtaking collection of palaces and castles, and would be a worthy setting for any fairytale. Visit the colourful 19th-century Romanticist vision of Pena Palace or explore the depths of the mysterious Initiation Well at the Gothic Quinta da Regaleira.

Comporta, Portugal

After soaking up the culture in Lisbon, it's time to head south to Comporta, a peaceful fishing village surrounded, surprisingly, by vibrant paddy fields.
