Hotel Atitlan has a fabulous location on the shores of the famous Lake Atitlan, only a five-minute drive from lively Panajachel, which is the local town. Having been used as a coffee plantation in a former life, Hotel Atitlan's decor is in the Spanish colonial hacienda style that was favoured by the Guatemalan plantation owners of the 18th-century.
Since its transformation into a hotel, there are now 60 guest rooms with wood burning fireplaces, each uniquely decorated. Although simple and rustic, the rooms mostly enjoy views of the lake and its backdrop of volcanoes, or the hotel's manicured gardens. Hand-woven bedding, textiles and traditional Guatemalan pieces of art feature throughout.
Facilities include a restaurant where you can enjoy poolside dining with yet more of those spectacular views. Towel service and poolside cocktails can easily be arranged, and the adjacent Jacuzzi is the perfect place to retreat to once the sun goes down.
