Host of the 1956 Olympics, the racing heritage of Cortina lives on by annually hosting the women’s downhill. Although the town is split between different areas the slopes are relatively uncrowded and the scenery is simply spectacular. Intermediate skiers will enjoy the abundance of red runs and those looking to ski a larger area can access the 11 other ski resorts which make up the Dolomiti Superski network, totalling 1,200km of pistes.

Cortina has long since attracted the fashion conscious as well as the rich and famous, the abundance of boutique clothing shops, independent restaurants and lively bars has created a popular Italian town. Non-skiers will enjoy the activities and atmosphere of the town. The climate in the Dolomites is a typical alpine microclimate - the winters are long and cold and, from December to February temperatures average below zero and can fall to -20°C at night. There are great differnces between daytime and night time temperatures. Winters are snowy but approximately 100 days of sunshine between December and March is the norm.
