Cycling Wiang Khum Kham to Ban Tawai
Venture out into the beautiful Chiang Mai countryside on a bicycle to explore ancient ruins, local villages and the lush landscape. This route offers a lovely way to learn more about northern Thai history, culture and rural lifestyle.
Accompanied by your own English-speaking guide, ride along the banks of the Ping River. See fishermen at work on the river and enjoy the lush green surroundings the start your adventure at Wiang Khum Kham, which is in the suburbs of Chiang Mai. Located by the Ping River, this extensive archaeological site pre-dates Chiang Mai and features many beautiful ruins. Pedal round the site learning about the history of the area and the local legends.
Cycle further out into the countryside, passing traditional teakwood houses before stopping in a park to have a quick snack of fresh fruit and a cool drink. Continue onwards to reach Ban Tawai, often referred to as the 'Village of Handicrafts'. Here you can visit workshops to see local specialist items being created, including silverware and wood carvings.
After approximately 25 kilometres of riding, the adventure comes to an end with a transfer into town.
It is possible to start this tour at around 8am or 1pm, and it lasts approximately four and a half hours. The road is flat and good quality tarmac.
