The Ultimate Northwest Passage Arctic Cruise

Due to the remoteness of this frozen wilderness, a journey into the depths of the Arctic region is one best experienced by sea. Following routes first established by explorers centuries ago, an Arctic cruise from Greenland to the USA via Canada and the Northwest Passage allows you to witness the sheer scale and beauty of this part of the world in all its glory.

Our Ultimate Northwest Passage voyage will open your eyes to breathtaking landscapes, isolated communities, and extraordinary wildlife found only in this part of the world. Sail through frozen waters and the Arctic Archipelago as you make your way from the far reaches of Greenland towards the rugged, snow-covered mountains of Alaska.

We'll take care of your flights from the US, so you don't have to worry about organizing them yourself. Our local guides will provide you with unparalleled access to exclusive excursions. Marvel at polar bears roaming across vast ice expanses, watch migrating whales surface through crystal-clear waters, and gaze at the dazzling Northern Lights as they dance across the night sky.

The Best Destinations to Visit on a Luxury Arctic Cruise

Traveling around this region by sea is the ideal choice as the wonderful scenery of Greenland, Canada, and Alaska can be enjoyed from the comfort of your luxury vessel. However, there are countless possibilities to venture ashore on your Arctic cruise should you wish. Here are a few highlights of some of the places you can visit:

  • Uummannaq: Visit the isolated fishing community which lies at the foot of the Uummannaq Mountain.
  • Ilulissat: This famous UNESCO World Heritage site located on the west coast of Greenland is the fastest glacier in the northern hemisphere.
  • Devon Island: Explore the remains of a Thule settlement dating back to 1000 AD.
  • Nome: This Alaskan town overlooking the Bering Sea is steeped in rich history extending to the Gold Rush era.

You can also browse other places to visit in the Arctic on the Scott Dunn website.

Arctic Cruises FAQs

  • How long do your luxury Arctic cruise vacations last?

To make sure you get the most out of this once-in-a-lifetime adventure in the Arctic, our itinerary for the Ultimate Northwest Passage cruise suggests a duration of 23 nights. However, we'll always look to accommodate your needs when it comes to the finer details of your Arctic cruise, so please get in touch with a member of our team and we'll do everything we can to help.

  • When is the best time of year to go on an Arctic cruise?

Our cruises in the Arctic depart between July and September. This is because there's a very specific season for expeditions due to the sea ice.

Temperatures are largely variable depending on conditions and which area of the Arctic you visit. The Arctic Circle can see temperatures between 15°F and 50°F during the summer, but temperatures tend to rise no higher than 40°F deep in the Northwest Passage.

  • What should I pack for an Arctic cruise?

As the climate in the Arctic can change at a moment's notice, it's important to make sure you come prepared with lots of layers. We recommend the below as a rough guide of items you should bring with you:

    • Long-sleeved shirts
    • Vests
    • Thick socks
    • Leggings or long johns
    • Turtleneck jumpers
    • Waterproof jacket
    • Waterproof trousers
    • High-quality thick gloves
    • Beanie-style hat

Each of our Arctic cruise ships offers guests a pair of complimentary rubber boots, so you'll only need to bring comfortable shoes with you to wear on board the vessel. Some ships will also have a Captain's Dinner, so you may want to consider bringing something a bit smarter for this evening or any other times you dine in the stunning restaurants on board.
