Best time to visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit

In the southern half of Australia the seasons are the opposite of those in the northern hemisphere: spring comes in September, summer is from December to February, autumn runs from March to May, and winter begins in June.

Sydney is great to visit year round but if you want warm sun and dry weather it is best to try between November and April. Their winter months of May - October usually have mild weather so you can still enjoy all the sights.  April through November is the best time to visit the Great Barrier Reef, although southeast trade winds can sometimes make it a tad choppy at sea. December through March can be uncomfortably hot and humid, particularly as far north. In the winter months (June-Aug), the water can be a touch chilly (Aussies think so, anyway), but it rarely drops below 22°C.

Itinerary

Day 1-4

Sydney

Your ultimate journey starts in Sydney, Australia’s most varied and cosmopolitan city. Staying at the stunning Park Hyatt with its acclaimed Hyatt service, it is the perfect luxury base to explore this wonderful city.  With panoramic views of the Opera House and the iconic harbour bridge, the rooftop pool is ideal to cool down after a day exploring Sydney’s sights.

If you are looking for a thrill, then you must take time to climb the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge for the sense of achievement and the breath-taking sights as you go.  Or if you prefer to be on solid ground why not stroll in the beautiful Botanic Gardens with its large variety of plant life. Spend your time exploring the harbour on a luxury gourmet cruise or take to the beaches of Bondi and enjoy an iconic surfing lesson. Take a private tour of the opera house, experience the House in its daily operation as you are guided into theatres, given a fascinating account of the history and architecture and introduced to the excitement of Performing Arts in Australia, before devouring a two course dining experience before you head in to live performance. Enjoy a magical evening taking in the grand surrounding as you let the opera wash over you, truly spellbinding.

Leave the hustle of Sydney behind as you take to the air for a stunning flight to the award-winning Cottage Point Inn, nestled on the banks of the Hawkesbury River. With views over the river and surrounded by bush land, Cottage Point is a wonderful location for a relaxing three course lunch, expertly crafted by the head chef, Kevin Solomon. After your riverside dining experience you will re-board your seaplane witnessing Sydney Harbour Bridge and the famed Opera House before returning to Rose Bay, a really fun way to see the area.

After supper when the sound of silence envelopes you, Longitude's resident astronomer will regale you with tales of the Southerly constellations before returning you to the Dune House at Longitude for a night cap.  Take some time to journey through the desert landscapes from Longitude 131 before the sun rises towards Kata Tjuta and the 36 domes known as the Olgas. Learn about the many attributes of this diverse environment from your experienced guide as you admire the sun rises over the red ochre rock.
