With space for just 16 guests, it is an intimate and welcoming escape that quickly feels like home
The rooms are a stylish and elegant combination of colours and materials taken from the natural environment, with wood, jute, leather and stone creating a harmony with the beautiful views that lie beyond the large floor-to-ceiling windows
Dining here is a surprise – the innovative dishes take local and seasonal ingredients but bring a modern and exciting twist, accompanied by Australian wines and beers on an all-inclusive basis
Sitting in the shadow of the mighty Mount Mulligan, the lodge is a masterclass in rustic yet elegant design and luxurious living at the heart of a wild landscape. With space for just 16 guests it is intimate and welcoming, with a main pavilion hosting meals and relaxation time and a beautiful infinity pool and sunset bar taking you through the day. Each room comes complete with its own electric buggy for travelling across the vast expanse of the property’s land.
Looking out over fragrant eucalyptus and the tranquil waters of the weir to Mount Mulligan, the rooms are pared-back yet elegant, with rich woods and neutral tones creating a natural sanctuary that remains connected to the beauty of the countryside that lies just beyond the large sliding glass doors. Corrugated iron water tanks have been upcycled into deep tubs and set on your private veranda, a relaxing spot for evening sundowners. Televisions are deliberately absent, though air-conditioning, heating, gourmet mini bars and tea and coffee facilities create a home-from-home in the remote outback. With three delicious meals included each day, as well as Australian wines and beers, you could be forgiven for spending all day enjoying the good food and drink served in the main pavilion. Fresh, locally sourced and seasonal, the menu changes daily but brings an imaginative edge to outback flavours, accompanied by renowned Australian wines. The bar is open throughout the day for cocktails by the pool, looking out over the imposing sandstone grandeur of Mount Mulligan. Your time at Mount Mulligan can be spent in idle contemplation of the vast landscape and open skies, or whizzing around 28,000 hectares on an ATV. Paddleboarding and kayaking get you onto the water, while fishing for barramundi is an opportunity to catch your own dinner. You could discover the day-to-day workings of this working cattle station or head out to the abandoned town of Mount Mulligan, a ghostly reminder of the region’s mining past. For a taste of outback living with more than a hint of luxury, Mount Mulligan Lodge is a thoughtfully designed, stylish retreat in beautiful surrounds and within reach of the adventure and history of this remote area. When to visit
