Kurje Lhakhang & Bumthang Village Walk

The Kurje Lhakhang Monastery is worth visiting as it was where Guru Rinpoche meditated before his tiger flew him to Tigers Nest Monastery. Continue through villages and then along the river back to Bumthang.

The Kurje Lkhakhang consists of three temples built onto the rock face which contains the cave where Guru Rinpoche was said to have meditated. Also stop at Jambay Lhakhang, built in the 7th century and one of the 108 monasteries built by the Tibetan King Songsen Tempo. The walk takes you over the suspension bridge and back along the valley through little villages. It is a great chance to stop and talk to the locals, and you never know, they might invite you in for tea!
