If travelling from Gangtey to Bumthang or vice versa - The 5-hour long but scenic drive from Gangtey to Bumthang crosses two mountain passes: Pele La at 3390m and Yotong La at 3425m. The road is also the filming location of "Travelers and Magicians", an award-winning Bhutanese film. Breaking the journey, we will stop at Trongsa Dzong. Trongsa Dzong is the largest Dzong in Bhutan. It was the seat of power over central and eastern Bhutan. Traditionally, the King of Bhutan first becomes the Trongsa Penlop (governor) before ascending the throne. The Dzong is the massive structure with many levels, which slope down the contours of a hill on which it perches. The intricacy of its maze of buildings on successive levels is clearly visible.
