Explore Angkor Thom
This is one of our favourite half-day experiences from Siem Reap.
You'll enjoy the magnificent temples of Angkor Thom before the crowds arrive. You'll firstly travel by road to the Victory Gate of Angkor Thom; here you'll have the choice of either walking along the path along the 8m / 26ft high laterite city wall to the Death Gate or continuing around by road. If you can we highly recommend going on foot to soak up the atmosphere and explore the area that's cloaked in dappled light.
En route to the Terrace of the Leper King, you can stop briefly to see an imposing statue found in Bayon, that is now displayed at Vihear Prampeilveng.
From here you'll head to Preah Palilay and walk approximately 1km / 0.6miles through the shaded parkland behind the terraces, passing Phimeanakas with its beautiful lakes, and the imposing Baphuon to finally reach Jayavarman’s state temple of Bayon, at the centre of the city. Explore the captivating and intricate temples with its incredible giant stone faces. Your guide will point out the most interesting of the detailed bas reliefs illustrating everyday life in the Angkorian era.
Please note you are required to wear clothing that covers your shoulders and below the knee, it is also suggested that you wear comfortable footwear.
