Explora Patagonia National Park

Explora Patagonia National Park has opened the possibility to explore one of the least visited regions of Chile in luxury. The lodge has been carefully designed to offer the perfect combination of comfort, elegance, gastronomy and sustainability.

Explora Patagonia National Park
  • Ever wanted to feel like you were in the middle of nowhere? At the Explora lodge, you well and truly are! Avoid the crowds that frequent locations like Torres del Paine, and head to this remote region of Patagonia instead.

  • Wildlife roams around Explora Patagonia National Park - keep your eyes peeled and you should regularly spot guanaco, foxes, the Andean condor and if you’re very lucky it could be a puma!

  • Hiking is the name of the game here, and for those keen on exploring remote areas by foot there really is nowhere better than the secluded surrounds of Parque Patagonia.

  • Catch up with fellow travellers in the living room around a cosy fire to trade stories of explorations far and wide.

Let yourself go as you arrive at this haven in the Patagonian wilderness, beautifully designed to create an intimate and private atmosphere. The lodge is located not far from the main entrance to Parque Patagonia, a new National Park situated deep within Chilean Patagonia that was recently established by the Tompkins Conservation. Kristine and Douglas Tompkins worked tirelessly to achieve new protected areas and restore ecosystems through various land and wildlife projects, and Parque Patagonia is one. A former sheep and cattle ranch, this lodge has been re-modelled and now offers the perfect Patagonian base for adventurous travellers and proudly promotes sustainability from its core.
The property is solidly built and will certainly protect you from that unpredictable Patagonian weather! There are 6 rooms in total, all beautifully decorated with big black and white photos and stylish dark wooden furniture sourced from South America. High quality amenities are also offered to all guests and the common areas are gorgeously cosy. The restaurant offers local gastronomy designed by revered chef team Pablo Jesús Rivero and Guido Tassi, beautifully styled and focussing on the use of local and home grown produce with 80% of their vegetables taken from the large organic garden. WiFi is offered but expect this to be rather hit and miss, with the property being so remote.
The staff at Explora Patagonia National Park are also hugely committed to eco-tourism, with an eventual goal of running the whole park on renewable energy. From the lodge itself you can head out on some fabulous hiking trails, which is the main draw of staying here; guides can be provided if you wish (best to be booked in advance) or hikes can be enjoyed independently. They can provide maps at the property but it's ideal if you can print these before you go. In addition, you can also take part in many other activities in the region. We also think it's worth taking some time to enjoy a wander around the whole property, to enjoy the stunning views, meet the resident guanacos and possibly even the elusive puma!
The aim of this lodge is to inspire its guests, promote conservation and offer a fantastic stay in one of the most remote and isolated regions that can be visited within Chile, and we think they've hit the nail on the head.
