A Paris icon, Hôtel Lutetia is a member of the exclusive Lartisien Luxury Hotel Collection. First opened in 1910, the hotel has been at the heart of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés scene for over a century. Originally conceived as a pied-à-terre to host suppliers and clients of the Bon Marché department store, the Lutetia soon became a popular haunt for the city’s cultural and artistic cognoscenti. Picasso, Matisse, Andre Gide, James Joyce, and Josephine Baker were all regulars, and the hotel reflects this heritage in its impressive art collection and Jazz Age vibe.
While the hotel’s curvy cream exteriors are resplendent with Belle Epoque architectural detail, the interiors are full of beautifully restored Art Nouveau and Deco features. These include the grand-revolving door, double-height lobby, stunning stained-glass roof over the restaurant, the white Métro tiles of the interior courtyard and the stunning 1910 fresco in Bar Joséphine. Rich polished wood, light Italian marble and original artworks complete the look.
Lutetia offers 184 rooms, suites, and speciality suites. Rooms face the interior courtyard or either Rue De Sèvres or Boulevard Raspail. Those facing the road are decorated in rich navy blues, while courtyard-facing rooms feature more neutral greys. All are chic and tasteful with parquet flooring, Art Deco accents, Murano glass light fittings, plush rugs, Hermès jacquard cushions and large comfortable beds. Amenities include flatscreen TV, Wi-Fi, minibar, tea/coffee making facilities, complimentary mineral water, and daily newspapers. Ensuite bathrooms all feature Italian Statuario marble, natural light, and Hermès bathing products. Trade up to an Eiffel Deluxe Room with Balcony to enjoy a decadently sized bathtub and shower, balcony, or terrace, along with knockout views of the Eiffel Tower.
For a more spacious stay, trade up to a suite. Many feature balconies and beautiful views across the Parisian skyline. For the ultimate luxury, the Presidential Carré Rive Gauche Suite has been decorated by a collective of antique dealers and art galleries. Featuring 25 original artworks, guests can purchase any pieces they fall in love with. Families can book adjoining rooms and the hotel provides toys and games if required.
The hotel has a selection of dining options. For a truly authentic brasserie experience, head to the 1910 original, Brasserie de Lutetia, which includes an outdoor dining area and a menu that showcases both traditional and modern French cuisine. For modern fare and cocktails, served in the classical beauty of the original building, head to Bar Joséphine, named after Joséphine Baker, who was once a regular guest. Or to relax in atmospheric style, visit the intimate and sophisticated Bar Aristide, full of dark wood furnishings, warm leather sofas and dim lighting.
Guests have access to a subterranean wellness area, which includes an inviting pool, whirlpool tub, sauna and hammam. There is also a stylish library, and Lutetia offers themed fashion, gourmet, and design tours of the area, on request. In the heart of Saint-Germain-des- Prés, the hotel is a two-minute walk from Bon Marché and just a five-minute stroll from the iconic Les Deux Magots, along with the Left Bank’s upscale shops and bistros.
