Luxury Vietnam Holidays FAQs
-
As Vietnam is a long, thin country, its climate varies from north to south. The best time to visit the central coast and the beaches is between April and August, which is the driest time of year there. In the north, November to February sees the least rainfall, while in the south, the dry season runs from November to April. If you’d like to travel around a bit, the best months overall to visit Vietnam are between November and April.

While all of our holidays to Vietnam are tailor-made, two of our most popular itineraries are Epic Vietnam, which combines cosmopolitan cities with beautiful beaches, and Limitless Vietnam, which sees you journey to some of the most superlative parts of the country.

There’s a huge variety of activities to enjoy on holiday in Vietnam, whether you’re travelling as a family, on a honeymoon, or with friends. Culture, food, and sightseeing are top of our list. Hop on the back of a vespa for a street and market food tour tasting incredible dishes or join a cooking lesson with a top chef. There are temples and museums to see, as well as sights of important cultural heritage such as the Cu Chi Tunnels. The landscapes are also spectacular, from hiking in Sapa and the north to enjoying the ethereal beauty of Halong Bay by boat and the Mekong Delta's river life. Plus, there are beaches to discover, with turquoise waters, white sand, and water sports aplenty.

Food is a true highlight of any holiday in Vietnam. Using fresh, local ingredients, it is seriously tasty and not too spicy for delicate palates. Noodle soup Pho is a traditional dish made with broth, beef, coriander, and bean sprouts to form a steaming bowl of flavour. Meanwhile, trying to find the best Banh Mi in Vietnam is a must. The sandwich is a crispy baguette packed full of vegetables such as radish, carrots, and cucumber, along with pate and chicken, which you’ll find sold in street food stalls everywhere (we’ve got our favourites we will help you discover!). Also look out for Ban Xeo, savoury pancakes stuffed with vegetables, meat, or fish, which are delicious. And, if you have a sweet tooth and love coffee, then Vietnamese coffee will be a firm favourite. The brew is made by mixing filtered coffee with condensed milk to create a sweet and creamy drink.
“One of my favourite restaurants for Vietnamese food in Hoi An is Co Mai, set right in the Old Town in a 200-year-old building. Sit outside under the red lanterns and try all the traditional dishes.” Hannah Mackie, Asia Travel Specialist.

Private car is the easiest way to get from A to B on a luxury holiday in Vietnam. Scott Dunn will organise all your transfers using trusted drivers and guides. However, the train links are also good and can be a fun way to travel, particularly the Vietage Scenic Train with its 12-seater Anantara carriage. The journey takes you from Da Nang to Quy Nhon and feels like stepping back in time to the golden age of travel.

If you’re travelling with older kids who like culture and history, we’d suggest visiting Hoi An, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh with your family. For beaches – especially with smaller tots – there's beautiful Con Dao and Nha Trang. While adventure-seeking families will love Halong Bay and hiking in Sapa. For the best Vietnam beach holidays, we’d suggest heading to the south of the country, where you’ll find the Con Dao archipelago and Phu Quoc Island. Both are excellent fly-and-flop destinations when you’re in need of winter sun and R’n’R or to tag onto the end of a tour of other parts of Vietnam. Both islands have pristine beaches, luxury hotels and beautiful nature to explore. Stay at Six Senses Con Dao or the more boutique La Veranda in Phu Quoc.

We don’t work with any luxury hotels in Vietnam that are exclusively adult only, however, some of the properties we know and love are more geared towards grown-up holidays rather than children. The Amanoi for example, one of the most beautiful design hotels in Vietnam, has a quiet elegance to it that doesn’t appeal to families, plus there are private villas and pavilions to surround yourself in privacy. There are also options to have a private charter in Halong Bay, ensuring an adult’s-only experience.

Our tours are typically between 10 and 20 days long but can be tailored to the length of time you have. Because of the flight time and time difference, you wouldn’t want to go to Vietnam for less than 10 days.

Direct flights to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh fly from London Heathrow. However, we can arrange connecting flights and transfers from anywhere in the UK and beyond. Contact one of our travel specialists to discuss your flight options.

Yes, combining Cambodia and Vietnam makes for a really special trip. You could also add a stop in Thailand and Laos as our Epic Indochina tour does. The two-week extravaganza sees you hop from Bangkok to Hanoi, to Luang Prabang, to Siem Reap, tasting incredible food and seeing the country’s best sights.
