Like the rest of Malaysia, Sabah’s climate is hot and humid. Expect temperatures in the high 20s and low 30s throughout the lowlands. The state’s rainfall averages about 300cm annually and though it rains throughout the year, the heaviest rainfall generally occurs between October and February.

Islands and Beaches, Borneo, Malaysia
Begin your amazing two-week soiree with a few nights at an idyllic island hideaway, framed by a pristine white sandy beach, turquoise waters and steamy verdant rainforest. Your flight arrives in the bustling city of Kota Kinabalu in Borneo, and after a short boat ride you’ll be relaxing with a refreshing fruit punch and cool lemongrass scented face towel in no time.
Bunga Raya Island Resort consists of raised wooden villas, mimicking Borneo’s traditional architectural style, albeit with luxurious modern touches, looking out over the jungle and scluded bay. The plunge pool villas, right on the beach, are particularly popular with honeymooners, whilst the treehouse villas, accessed via their own jungle walkway offer the most privacy. The resort has a relaxed atmosphere with stunning views, best enjoyed with a tropical-inspired drink, in a tall glass over plenty of ice, from the gorgeous infinity pool. There’s an excellent spa and the eager to please staff can arrange special dining experiences for a truly romantic experience under the stars.
If you want to burn off some energy there are plenty of hiking trails and suspended canopy walkways up into the jungle where you’re likely to encounter roaming wildlife or take out a kayak or paddleboard to explore the hidden coves and bays. Grab a snorkel and mask to discover the underwater marine world, or the resort’s PADI accredited centre can arrange diving as well. For adrenaline junkies there are a series of exhilarating zip-lines behind the property.
Danum Valley, Borneo, Malaysia
Your next destination is the unique and spectacular Danum Valley Conservation Area. Walk through the treetops on the suspended canopy walkways looking out for hornbills and if you are very lucky, wild orangutans lounging in the branches. Walk through the jungle on special trails, passing waterfalls and hot springs and enjoying the cacophony of exotic bird calls.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
It’s time to switch things up a level, today you fly to Malaysia’s state-of-the-art capital city, Kuala Lumpur. You’ll be met at the airport and guided through the chaotic traffic to Villa Samadhi, a hidden gem of a boutique hotel. It offers a funky chilled-out retreat, just minutes from the hustle and bustle of the buzzing metropolis. The wonderfully spacious rooms, with Asian inspired décor, dreamy beds and enormous bathrooms all have an outdoor terrace leading out to the lagoon-shaped pool, fringed with wispy grasses, tall palms and shaded sun loungers. Don’t miss the complimentary cocktail hour each evening out on the terrace, providing the perfect interlude between a busy day of exploring and getting ready for dinner back out on the town.
Made famous by the dominating Petronas Towers, which loom grandly from just about everywhere at street level, KL epitomises a modern Asian city. Dine at exclusive restaurants (the knowledgeable hotel staff will gladly make recommendations and book you a table) or sip cocktails at the trendy rooftop sky-bars with jaw-dropping views out over the twinkling city skyline.
To ease you into the city’s frenetic pace and introduce you to the smells and flavours of Asian street food, we’ve included a fun guided tour around Kuala Lumpur's bustling and photogenic Chinatown area. Wind through tight alleys and enjoy a selection of food tastings, ranging from the traditional to the rather more unusual, guaranteed to excite your taste buds! Pop in and have a look around some of the nearby temples, if that takes your fancy too. Later, left to your own devices, explore the traditional markets for gorgeous handmade crafts or something new to hang on your wall back home, alternatively hit the city’s high-end boutiques for some proper retail therapy.
Langkawi, Malaysia
A few days in the city is probably enough and you’ll be ready for a tropical paradise of crystal-clear emerald waters, lush green jungle and sweeping golden bays. Hop on a short flight and you’ll soon be basking in the sun on one of Langkawi Island’s pristine beaches or heading with a mask and snorkel to discover the region’s technicoloured marine life. In fact, the idyllic retreat we’ve picked for you, the luxurious Datai Langkawi, sits on a secluded crescent-shaped pocket of paradise, which the National Geographic has named as one of top 10 beaches in the world!
With a stunning pristine rainforest backdrop, this well-established high-end hotel is consistently one of our favourites. With its faultless service, unique rooms and villas (some with private pools), exceptional dining options and superb range of facilities, it is an unashamedly perfect beach retreat. Spend your days hiking the island’s dense jungle whilst keeping an eye out for colourful birds and inquisitive monkeys or participate in a variety of water sports including sea-kayaking, windsurfing, and sailing.
