All rooms have a balcony and some have glimpses of the falls, but the best place to enjoy the view is from the 50m long infinity pool (cocktail optional)
With the enviable accolade of being the only hotel located within the confines of the Iguazu National Park, the Gran Melia Iguazu offers unbeatable views of the thundering falls. Just ten minutes’ walk from the Garganta Del Diablo, the real highlight of the Gran Melia Iguazu is being able to rise early and walk to the falls before the park opens to the public, giving unfettered access to the walkways and viewpoints of the Argentinian side of the falls.
The hotel itself is large and spacious, with 176 guest rooms that have been recently refurbished with light, contemporary décor and large picture windows that look out over the gardens, the jungle and some even to the falls themselves. Some of the larger rooms have small balconies with impressive views and all rooms have air conditioning, Wi-Fi and satellite television.
Four varied restaurants and bars cater for every taste, ranging from the bright and contemporary Merkado Restaurant, under a vast expanse of glass with views of the falls, to the rooftop Alter Bar for cocktails with a view. Prime cuts of Argentinian beef, fresh vegetables from local farms and tropical fruits from the surrounding jungle feature highly on the menus, alongside world-class Argentinian wines and local beers.
Set amongst the manicured gardens is the 50-metre infinity-edge swimming pool, looking across to the spray of the falls that rises above the jungle. The Gala Pool Bar serves laid-back international cuisine including burgers and salads, and provides poolside refreshment all day. The hotel’s Yasí Health Club houses a 24-hour gym, saunas, a hydrotherapy circuit and a luxury spa offering an array of treatments from the comfort of the five private spa suites. Yoga and tango classes are available throughout the week and the Gran Melia Iguazu has curated a selection of experiences to best experience the falls, from helicopter flights to full moon tours of the waterfalls under the cover of darkness.
When to visit
Sip a refreshing caipirinha by the pool or on the terrace. It’s the perfect way to watch the sunset and cool off after a day in the humid jungle.
