Experience Italy During Jubilee

Rome: Insider Travel Hacks

“The theme of the 2025 Jubilee Year is 'Pilgrims of Hope,' drawing visitors from all corners of the globe," Livia explains. "If you’re planning to visit Rome during the Jubilee, timing is everything."

1. Plan Your Trip Wisely

Strategically planning your visit to Rome will ensure the best experience when exploring the city’s most celebrated landmarks. “I would avoid peak times such as Christmas, Easter and major holidays,” says Livia. Visiting on weekdays instead of weekends can also make a big difference, giving you a more relaxed and immersive experience.

2. Rise Early for the Best Experience

Rome is a city that deserves to be explored at your own pace, and there’s no better way to do that than by timing your visits to avoid the crowds. Livia recommends going “to the major sites such as the Vatican and Colosseum earlier in the morning rather than in the afternoon.” This will give you the chance to experience these iconic locations without the midday rush. “Energize yourself after an early wake-up call with a local's favourite snack: Roman Style Pizza by the slice. My favourite spots are Bonci and Roscioli!”

3. Embrace Rome’s Lesser-Known Neighbourhoods

Livia suggests visiting “lesser-known neighbourhoods to see some of the more local areas.” For a more authentic Roman experience, explore Testaccio for its vibrant food scene, wander the quiet, charming streets of Garbatella, and lose yourself in Monti, home to eclectic boutiques and traditional Roman trattorias.

Beyond Rome: Italy’s Hidden Escapes

While Rome is the heart of the Jubilee, Italy has so much more to offer. For a more relaxed and authentic experience, consider venturing beyond the capital.

1. The Dolomites & Lake Garda

"The Dolomites aren’t just a ski destination; they’re incredible in the summer too," Livia explains. "You can go hiking, e-biking, or explore the stunning lakes in the region." A perfect place to unwind, this alpine escape is a breath of fresh air away from the buzz of the populous cities, especially during the hot summer months.

2. Ischia & Sorrento

“I would definitely recommend going to Ischia and combining it with Sorrento to enjoy a little bit of the mainland and a little bit of a local's favourite island,” Livia shares. Soak up the coastal charm of Sorrento before unwinding in Ischia’s mineral-rich thermal waters and picturesque beaches – an idyllic combination.

3. Southern Italy: Sicily & Puglia

Livia’s personal favourite? “Southern Italy. Sicily and Puglia are full of character, with incredible food, and a slower pace of life. If you want charming towns and laid-back luxury, these are must-visit regions." Think crystal-clear waters, luxury boutique hotels and unique culinary delicacies that are found only in these areas (such as authentic cannoli in Sicily or the famous orecchiette pasta dish in Puglia).
