Perth enjoys a Mediterranean style climate with warm summers and mild winters. The main season is between September and April, when it's hot but rarely humid, with little rain. There's more rain in winter (May to August), but temperatures remain mild and the sun often shines. The Perth International Arts Festival is in March.

Itinerary

Day 1-4

Perth, Australia

Your incredible adventure across this vast area begins in the state’s capital Perth, an energetic rejuvenated city that has changed dramatically over the last few years. With flip-flop weather almost all year round, perfect white sandy beaches, an exciting craft beer scene, easy access to award winning wineries and home to some of Australia’s best restaurants, it’s understandable why its residents don’t want to live anywhere else!

You should feel right at home at the funky COMO The Treasury, slap bang in the centre of town, it’s easy walking distance to all the good stuff, including the Elizabeth Quay, a happening waterfront precinct on the banks of the Swan River with large open spaces, trendy restaurants and lively bars. The hotel occupies historic buildings, but inside everything has been brought right up to date with modern décor, statement artwork, cutting edge design and some deft elegant flourishes. It perfectly captures Perth’s laid-back, but very cool vibe.

To make sure you don’t miss the city’s best bits we’ve included a couple of fun experiences. The first is a whistle stop tour of Perth’s highlights which also includes a lunch stop at a fabulous beachside restaurant overlooking Cottesloe Beach, arguably the most famous beach with dazzling sand and views out over picture-perfect turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. You’ll also visit the bustling port town of Fremantle, filled with galleries, markets and museums before boarding a scenic cruise along the Swan River back to Perth.

The following day you’ll take a short boat across to Rottnest Island, home to Western Australia’s friendliest animal, the quokka. This highly unusual furry marsupial (like a cross between a kangaroo and a guinea pig) has become an internet sensation in recent years as they seemingly have no fear of people and are more than willing to pose casually for a photo or even for a selfie! The best way to explore the island, which is car free, is on two wheels. Together with your guide, you’ll hop on bikes and discover the island’s fascinating history, visit some of its most picturesque bays and beaches and of course, stop to take plenty of photos with the island’s famous cute residents. There’ll be time for a spot of lunch before re-boarding the boat back to Perth.

Accommodation: COMO The Treasury ( 3 nights )
Day 4-7

Margaret River, Australia

It’s now time for a change of scenery. Your next destination is the world-famous wine producing region of Margaret River, just three hours south of Perth, it has been voted Australia’s top food and wine destination but is also known for its endless undisturbed beaches, surf breaks, artistic towns and spectacular network of underground caves.
Cape Lodge, your home for the next few days, is a hidden gem of boutique property set amongst tranquil countryside surroundings, it is the perfect base to explore this beautiful corner of Australia. Elegant and luxurious, in a classic sort of way, it has an idyllic setting on the edge of a private lake amongst 40 acres of vineyard, manicured gardens and woodland. Enjoy delicious breakfasts in the morning sunshine on the terrace overlooking the lake and gourmet dinners under the stars with wines handpicked from the extensive cellar.

To give you a help you with your bearings, we have booked you onto an exclusive guided tour around Margaret River. A visit to a local winery and a private “behind the scenes” tasting is followed by a light lunch and wine pairings, but you’ll also have a chance to admire some of the region’s highlights, including the magnificent Karri forest (home to the world’s third tallest threes), limestone caves and some stunning coastal lookout points.

During the rest of your time you’re free to kickback beside the hotel’s inviting outdoor pool or drop in on another of the surrounding vineyards (there are over 120!), for beer lovers there are plenty of breweries to visit too! For those looking for something less sedate you could go mountain biking along forest trails, kayaking along the river itself or hit the waves and try surfing the famous beach breaks.

Accommodation: Cape Lodge ( 3 nights )
Day 7-10

Ningaloo Reef, Western Australia

Leaving behind Margaret River, you’ll fly to Western Australia’s most northerly airport and the gateway to Ningaloo Reef and Cape Range National Park. Arriving by buggy along a dusty track, prepare for an off-the-grid wilderness experience, staying at the award-winning barefoot luxury eco-camp Sal Salis. Nestled literally between the outback and the reef, wedged between sand dunes and the Indian Ocean, your neighbours here will be wallabies and kangaroos and it's fair to say you will have the coastline to yourself.

There are a variety of camp-based activities on offer including the chance to swim with the largest fish in the sea, the whale shark or, if conditions suit, humpback whales, Sal Salis and Ningaloo really are an untouched paradise waiting to be explored. Snorkelling through crystal clear waters and the vividly coloured reef, kayaking and hiking across the national park are some of the other unforgettable experiences available to guests.

Perched on wooden platforms in the dunes looking out towards the sea, the spacious and comfortable tents all have ensuite bathrooms and a private seated deck out front, perfect for kicking back with a beer whilst watching the skies turn a kaleidoscope of colours at sunset. You’ll be dining under the stars, tucking into delectable gourmet dishes with a decidedly locally sourced stance and sharing stories with other guests over a glass of wine. Happily content, you’ll drift off to sleep under the canvas, with just the sound of the waves lapping against the sand.

Accommodation: Sal Salis ( 3 nights )
