Best Time to Visit Brazil

Brazil is a large Country and has a mixed climate with a very dry region in the Northeast but is otherwise largely tropical. So whilst the best time to visit Rio de Janeiro is whenever suits you, it is a year-round destination, that is not the case for some of the other highlights of Brazil.

Best time to visit

Our individual Brazil itineraries indicate the best time to go on that particular tour and we have more information below. Our Brazil travel specialists will be able to advise you further on the best time for your trip to Brazil, depending on your desired Brazil holiday destinations or experiences Low season is March-June and October-December is a great time to visit the main tourist destinations in Brazil and avoid the crowds and the heat. It can be quite cool from July to August (usually in the low 20°c's). The hottest time is from December to February, when temperatures often reach 30°c and above. It can be humid with frequent short bursts of rain at this time of year. This is also the busiest time of year (New Year is one big party). Weekends are also busier than weekdays here, particularly in Rio and Buzios. Rio de Janeiro is a year-round destination, although rain can fall at any time of year. May to October is the best time to visit Rio. If travelling over Christmas/New Year or over Carnival, please be sure to book well in advance to secure availability. In Bahia temperatures vary little from month to month and it's warm all year round, with average highs hovering around 30°c. April to July is the wettest season (though it can rain at any time) and June to September bring slightly cooler evenings. Salvador goes mad during Carnival (February or March depending on the year) - more than 2 million partygoers hit the streets for a colourful riot of dancing and drinking - expect prices to hike and availability to fall dramatically. Iguazu Falls sees its highest rainfall between May and July, where the falls will be at their fiercest, but they are spectacular year-round. On the Southern Coast temperatures rarely exceed 30°C and generally do not fall below 13°C (night times in July). Even in winter (June-September), when rates are lower, daytime temperatures usually reach 21°C. Rainfall is a possibility throughout the year, but January and February often experience slightly heavier showers. High season is generally December to April when it's warm and humid. The springtime - September - October - is a lovely time of year before the humidity is too much. On the Northern Coast the temperature in Jericoacoara beach is constantly stable, rarely under 25°c or over 35°c. The rainy season is February – May but the sun shines all year round. July to November the wind is strong, which favours those wanting to be Windsurfing and Kitesurfing. Pantanal has two well-defined seasons: one dry (May to September) and one rainy (December to March). The best time to visit Pantanal is in the dry season when wildlife is generally better seen across the Pantanal and Amazon. May to September is also a more pleasant time to travel and when bugs are minimal.
