Chalet Hibou sits at the the top of Tarentaise Valley on the French/Italian border, close to the small authentic farming village of Le Miroir. The location offers fabulous views, a chance to experience the local Haute-Savoie culture and cuisine, as well as easy access to the world-class ski areas of Sainte Foy, Val d'Isère, Tignes, Les Arcs and La Rosière, which are all within a 30-minute drive. Heli-skiing is also an option over the border in Italy.
Full of alpine chic, the chalet which can accommodate up to 17 guests includes six bedrooms and bunk room, media room, outdoor hot tub, sauna, steam room, fitness equipment, and plenty of relaxing spaces to enjoy after a day on the slopes. Wi-Fi is available throughout. There’s also a boot room, wine cellar, children’s games room and small lounge bar for après-ski cocktails. The dining room and sitting room with sumptuous sofas and blazing fireplace are both inviting and spacious and there’s an outdoor dining terrace with plenty of sheepskin throws for warmth. Guests enjoy delicious local Savoyarde cuisine, cooked to individual preference, served alongside local wines and aromatic génépi.
The chalet is operated by the Eleven Experience brand, who specialise in customised experiences and itineraries. This is guided by their best-day-ever philosophy and delivered by teams of local, highly trained, and experienced adventure activity specialists. Before each trip, Eleven works with guests on pre-arrival planning. This spans everything from menus to adventure activities. All equipment is provided, along with any lift passes required, and rates include one guided adventure activity each day, chef cooked breakfasts, après, dinner, house alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
During the winter season (December to April), guided activities include on and off-piste skiing, ski touring, ice climbing and snowshoeing, while there is an additional charge for cross country skiing, paragliding, dog sledding and heli-tours. Those wishing to heli-ski can book this at an additional cost or book the Heli-Skiing Experience (available January to April), for a chance to enjoy up to six drops per day of adrenalin-filled fresh powder runs. All drops are over the border in Italy, as heli-skiing is banned in France.
All guests have the use of the Alpage, a former sheep herder’s hut. The ultimate hideaway, this off-piste outpost is wonderful for atmospheric candlelit dinners and only accessible by foot, ski, or snowshoe. Close to sister property Chalet Pelerin (sleeping up to 12 guests), both chalets can be booked together to comfortably accommodate large groups of up to 29.
