Courchevel Moriond 1650

Just a little further down the mountain from its glitzy big sister Courchevel 1850, the quieter resort of Courchevel Moriond (1650) offers some of the best skiing in the whole of Les Trois Vallées. It's fast establishing itself as a highly popular resort in its own right, with much more of a mountain village feel. Some of the hotels in Courchevel 1650 boast outstanding facilities to guarantee a great skiing holiday, often at better value than 1850.

It makes for the perfect family ski destination as it suits all levels and we can provide childcare for the younger ones, giving you the chance to enjoy the slopes to the fullest. The village lines the main road up to 1850 but, despite that, the main centre is atmospheric with a quiet square surrounded by traditional Alpine buildings, bars and restaurants.

Courchevel Moriond offers a good choice of shops, supermarkets, and places to eat and drink, while it has some lively après-ski. The main lift (the Bel Air) whisks you straight to the door of its eponymous mountain restaurant, one of the most renowned in the area with one of the best terraces in Les Trois Vallées.

The Front de Neige is the perfect place to soak up the sun on one of the hotel terraces and watch the skiers coming down. And once the slopes are closed, this becomes a hive of activity for sledging.

A luxury Courchevel 1650 ski holiday with Scott Dunn is a truly extraordinary experience for all your party, so read on to find out more about snow conditions, hotels and the village itself.

It boasts an enviable ski-in, ski-out location in the heart of Courchevel Moriond, providing easy access to the rest of the Courchevel Valley and the extensive 600km worth of slopes within Les Trois Vallées region. It is home to our exclusive Scott Dunn kids club which provides childcare and fun activities for children aged 4 months to 12 years, wrapping around their ski lessons, meaning both parents and children are kept happy and entertained – making for the perfect ski holiday!”

Skiing in Courchevel 1650: What You Need to Know

  • Resort altitude: 1,650m
  • Highest point: 2,738m
  • Vertical drop: 1,438m
  • Ski areas: Part of Les Trois Vallées, the largest ski area in the world. Includes six other resorts: Méribel, La Tania, Les Menuires, Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, Val Thorens and Orelle.
  • Lifts: 180
  • Pistes: 150km (600km for Les Trois Vallées: 52% beginner/intermediate, 38% advanced, 10% expert).

Best for: All levels. Easy runs close to the village, a wealth of blue and red runs, and plenty of off-piste terrain further up the mountain make Courchevel 1650 great for all abilities.

With a lift system linking the village to Méribel and Val Thorens, Courchevel 1650 is located in the eastern end of Les Trois Vallées and has sunny and forgiving slopes for beginner and intermediate skiers. Meanwhile, it also offers access to the most exciting and extensive ski area in the world for those at a more advanced level.

The slopes are wide, benefit from plenty of sun and tend to be less busy than those higher up, with fewer queues for the lifts. Being 200m lower than 1850, the quiet, tree-lined runs are a very attractive proposition and on the edge of the ski area is the Chapelets run – one of our favourites. For stronger skiers, access to the off-piste of the Chanrossa Bowl is as easy from 1650 as it is from 1850. From here, the Marmottes chairlift gives you direct access to Méribel and 1850. There's no doubt about it: our Courchevel 1650 holidays offer something for skiers of all levels.

Insider Tips for Your Ski Holiday in Courchevel 1650

Whether this is your first time skiing Courchevel 1650 or you're back for a repeat visit, check out our top tips from our ski experts:

  • Find time to ski down the Indiens run, where you’ll come across some…'interesting' characters.
  • I highly recommend Le Bel Air Mountain Restaurant for a lunch stop. It’s essential to reserve as it’s hugely popular, and you’ll soon see why. The food and service are excellent; it’s ski in/ski out and can be reached on foot, making it perfect for non-skiers too.
  • La Casserole is a good-value lunch stop. When the sun is shining, its south-facing terrace couldn’t be a nicer place to sit.
  • There's night skiing above the village on a floodlit slope each night at 7pm – if you haven’t already overdone it on the après-ski, that is!

FAQs About Courchevel 1650 and Ski Holidays

  • When's the best time to ski in Courchevel 1650?

Mid-January is a great time to visit Courchevel Moriond because it's when the snow conditions are typically at their best. It also means you'll avoid the peak times and prices that come with holidaying around Christmas, New Year or the February half-term break. March and April are also excellent months to ski Courchevel 1650, as the conditions are a little warmer and the longer days give you more of a chance to enjoy the slopes.

  • How long are your ski holidays to Courchevel 1650?

It's your holiday, so you can go for as long as you like! When you book with Scott Dunn, we'll tailor your trip to your needs and schedule. We find that most of our guests ski for a week to 10 days, but if you want a longer or shorter stay we can make that happen.

  • What are the ski schools like in Courchevel 1650?

Meeting up with the ski school couldn’t be easier. We use the English-speaking New Generation, who meet underneath the Ariondaz télécabine near the Sainte-Agathe drag lift. They have many years of experience in Courchevel 1650 and teach beginners on the gentle slopes of Granges and Marquis, but they can take more advanced skiers to the fabulous off-piste runs in Les Avals. Proper coaching can rapidly improve your skiing – and the quality of your holiday – so it's well worth looking into for those who are less experienced.

  • Do you offer a kids' club as part of your Courchevel 1650 holidays?

Yes, Scott Dunn guests get exclusive access to our Explorers kids' club at the Portetta hotel. Our trained team can care for little ones from four months up to seven years of age, with lots of games and activities to keep them entertained while you're out making the most of a day on the slopes!
