Set in the serene surrounds of a Buddhist temple on Mount Koya, Souji-in boasts a range of room types that balance the tranquillity of their decor with modern additions. Scenic gardens offer space to unwind, while guests can observe the morning prayers and interact with the monks.

The rooms are Japanese in style, with simple lines and muted colours given depth by the traditional art and ornaments. Futon beds provide accommodation for up to six guests and the rooms are spacious, ranging from 30 to 80 sq.m. Modern additions include TVs, air-conditioning, tea and coffee facilities, private bathrooms (with the exception of the Standard Room) and toilets. Complimentary WiFi is available in the rooms and the public areas.

Shojin Ryori, a traditional vegan meal, is served for breakfast and dinner in your room, while a shared lounge offers space to relax, play board games or watch TV. When not exploring the local area or observing the rituals of the monks, take a stroll through the manicured Japanese gardens or soak in the views from the terrace. Children are welcome at Souji-in and meals can be tailored to their needs, while the rooms can accommodate a family.

While enjoying the simplicity of life in a temple complex, guests can gain an insight into Buddhist culture and worship by observing the rituals of the monks, as well as visiting the Koyasan Reihokan Museum and the restaurants of the town.
