Resident warthog wander through camp
Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp is found on the edge of the north western Maasai Mara and is found in the forest just below the spot where a famous scene from Out of Africa was filmed. This setting was also chosen to illustrate the motion picture’s poster. In each safari tent there is an en-suite bathroom with shower, stone floors and soft lighting. Each tent stands at least eight metres away from the next, ensuring absolute seclusion and it is lovely to be able to sit on the terrace of your tent and see what game wanders past.
Kichwa Tented Camp has a lovely swimming pool, with views out over the endless plains and is the perfect place to cool off in the middle of the day. There are also lots of hammocks strung up between trees in the grounds, perfect to relax in.
Children are warmly welcomed at the camp and activities depend entirely on the age of the children and may include the following: family game-drives (at the discretion of the lodge manager and subject to availability), special one-hour children's bush walks within the camp perimeter and Planet Manager activity books. Special programmes can be compiled such as tracking for children, fishing, frog safaris and birding.
When to visit
Look out for the warthogs that prowl the lawns, they are brilliant characters and almost tame!
