Resort nightlife
Courchevel
We think Courchevel’s best night out is at La Mangeoire restaurant. You need to book the 10pm sitting and as you enter it is very smart, lit by candles, with crisp white tablecloths. The food is excellent although the wine list is pricey, with bottles from €80 to €31,200! At the beginning of the evening a singer performs relaxed, easy listening tunes. The music gradually gets louder throughout the evening until at dessert it is at club volume. Dancing on chairs is soon replaced by dancing on tables accompanied by punchbowls of cocktails. This goes on until the small hours - truly a one off evening.
Val d’Isère
Under new ownership this season, Dick's Tea Bar, open from 11pm every night, is an institution in Val d'Isère and is renowned among skiers. They regularly have International DJs including Krafty Kuts who were performing there just last week. Every night is different and in a week you can experience everything from Electro Swing, a Cheese night, Reggae, 80s, Hip Hop and the popular Carpet Face and Audiable, a live DJ, Scratching and Beat Box set.
If public school boys (and the odd girl) aren’t really your scene, Doudoune, underneath the piste, resembles a London nightclub and also attracts international DJs and attracts a rather more sophisticated clientele than Dicks. It is an impressive area, with a large dancefloor and VIP area in which you can reserve a table. Doudoune is open from 6pm every night and has a lounge bar feel until around 1pm when the night really gets going.
St Anton
At Piccadilly’s bar, a live singer entertains the relaxed crowd upstairs while the Post Kellar bar downstairs has a DJ and a good-sized dance floor.
For the more sophisticated, on Thursday evening in the bar at the Schwarzer Adler there's live music - a small band plays a good range of soul, jazz and chilled out classics - a much more refined atmosphere and lovely to be able to sit in the cosy bar area, sipping cocktails or enjoying a single malt or a warming cognac!
Zermatt
The Paperla pub is the place to spend the evening in Zermatt for a wild night where shots are given out at regular intervals on the house. You can start off with some après outside, and at around 6 a live band fires up inside, this is where you can dance on the tables late into the evening – guests have been known to forget to come back for supper! The bar is very busy until the Schnee Witchen Club opens up downstairs at about 11pm, where you can dance the night away until the small hours. For the brave, 12 hours or non-stop fun is entirely possible but you might find you have aged 12 years in the morning.
The place not too many people know about is The Pink, it does not open until 10pm and is situated at the rear of the Hotel Post. It is a world-class music bar/lounge with new performers every week and it attracts a lot of famous musicians as well. You could be standing next to Keith Richards or Roger Taylor at the bar, whilst listening to the most amazing live music from all over the world at the same time as drinking one of Hanz's delicious cocktails. A little piece of heaven for music lovers.
