The Caprivi, Namibia
Shametu River Lodge Campsite
  • Wake up in your Luxury Chalet to the sound of singing birds and the Poppa Falls roaring in the distance.

  • Shametu River Lodge boasts an enviable location, just a short drive away from both Mahango and Bwabwata National Parks, where you are likely to spot the Big Five.

  • After a day of adventuring in the National Parks or on the river, put your feet up and enjoy a glass of wine from the comfort of your private porch - the perfect place to watch the orange-hued sunset.

  • See if you can spot a hippo or an elusive croc as you cruise down the Kavango River at sundown. Keep your camera close to hand!

With the river providing life to the animal and plants in the area, it is a sanctuary for birds like the wattled crane, Pel's fishing owl and African skimmer to name a few. The river itself is home to tiger fish, of which guests can head out on the river to try their hand at catching these fish. With the Bwabwata National Park and Mahango Game Reserve a stones throw away, you could also head out on a game drive to see some more game.

Shametu River Lodge itself consists of Luxury Chalets and Tents, Standard Chalets and an area for camping for those looking for more independence and freedom. The Luxury Chalets are nestled beneath the trees and have been built on the banks of the river to offer spectacular views of the Popa Falls. They come complete with beautiful furnishings and en-suite bathrooms. The Standarad Chalets are also nestled beneath the trees, and although are not located on the banks of the river, do offer some river views. In any of the accommodation options you will wake to the singing of birds and the flow of the river. A bar area behind the restaurant offer a place to have a drink in the evening, while a large deck close to the swimming pool offers 180-degree views of the river.

Your time at Shametu could be spent exploring the area and all it has to offer on a game drive, take a picnic out in the bush, or take a walk to a village to learn more about local life. Alternatively, head out on the river for a sunset cruise, and enjoy a sundowner as the sun sets.
