April to October is best for time for visiting Peru’s Andean region and main highlights. It is typically sunny in the day and cold at night due to altitude. Heavy rains last from December to end of February with January and February being the wettest months. The Amazon is generally hot, wet and humid year round. Peru is very popular in the high season, especially during their many cultural festivals such as Inti Raymi on 24 June, so best to book well in advance.

Fly to Lima
Lima, Peru
Fly into Lima and delve straight into Peru's fascinating culture, spending two nights here to explore and overcome the international flight. Base yourselves in the Miraflores district which boasts many great places to dine and is within easy reach of some of the city's attractions.

Puerto Maldonado, Peruvian Amazon, Peru
Venture into the Amazon Rainforest for an unforgettable adventure, observing wildlife and interacting with locals in this unique and diverse ecosystem. Get up into the canopy as you wander along hanging bridges and discover the waterways by canoe, either motorised or by paddling. Explore the forest day and night as you soak in the sights and sounds of the world's largest rainforest.

Sacred Valley, Peru
Next stop is the Sacred Valley, the perfect stop en route to Machu Picchu for a blend of adventure and culture. Stay for three nights as you acclimatise to the altitude and enjoy exploring all that the valley has to offer. Head out to one of the region's beautiful lakes for a spot of kayaking or paddleboarding, explore by bike and discover colourful markets and local Andean villages.

Machu Picchu, Peru
Take a train to KM104, the starting point for the 1-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, the ideal trekking option for families who prefer not to camp. The 1-day hike takes you along the final stretch of the full Inca Trail, straight into the Machu Picchu site. Spend one night in a hotel in Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu, and return in the morning for a privately guided tour before heading to Cusco by train.

Cuzco, Peru
The final stop is Cusco which used to be the heart of the Inca empire and is now a charming, colonial city with plenty to offer all ages. The city is rich in cultural attractions, with ruins, churches and museums dotted through the centre and its surroundings. Colourful markets and boutiques spill out onto the cobbled streets making it the ideal place to pick up any final gifts. A privately guided tour has been included to explore the centre before catching your flight back home.
