Antarctica is the world’s coldest, windiest and driest continent. During the summer months the winds abate considerably, and the weather is surprisingly comfortable, averaging between –6 and 10°c. Summertime also means 18-24 hours of sunlight allowing extensive exploration trips.
Arctic cruising has a very specific season due to the sea ice; all expedition cruises depart from July through to September and therefore do not sail in the winter months. The Arctic Circle can see summer temperatures vary between -10°c and 10°c.
