Wilpattu is one of Sri Lanka’s oldest and largest national parks, with an area of over 130,000 hectares. Explore by jeep, driving past natural lakes, scrubland and dense jungle, possibly spotting sloth bear, leopard and wild elephant.
This enormous park was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1905 and upgraded to a national park in 1938, thanks to its unique ecosystem of lakes, grassland, jungle and forest. Wilpattu is home to over 30 species of mammal and you might be able to spot elephant, sloth bear, water buffalo, leopard, deer, mongoose and much more.
