Bank Hotel
  • Heritage building with lavish décor

  • Welcoming staff who address you by name

  • Impressive restaurant and three atmospheric bars to choose from

  • Located in Östermalm, close to Stockholm’s finest shops, museums, bars and restaurants

Full of turn of the century grandeur and style, central Stockholm’s Bank Hotel is a proud member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group. This historic building first served as a bank during the 1910s and over a century later, it has been transformed into an elegant boutique hotel amid the high-end restaurants, shops, and museums of the Östermalm district. There is a bank-inspired design theme, which is evident the moment you sweep through the hotel’s impressive and original bronze double doors. Oversized crystal chandeliers, mahogany panelled walls, jewel-coloured velvets, and statement marble interiors, create an intimate blend of historic and contemporary design.

Modern art originals adorn both the public spaces and guest rooms, thanks to a collaboration with a local gallery. Along with work created by young talent from the Swedish art platform, Young Art, artworks from world-renowned artists including Annie Morris and Albert Watson are displayed throughout the hotel. Staff are warm and friendly, remembering you by name and while they are hugely obliging, the sophisticated vibe makes the Bank Hotel more suited to couples than families.

The 115 guest rooms feature an elegant décor with high ceilings, velvet armchairs, soft carpets, original artwork and a good selection of snacks and sweets. A natural colour palette combines with flourishes of art-deco decadence in honour of the building’s heritage. Bathrooms are spacious with limestone tiles, marble sinks and Diptyque toiletries, with robes and slippers provided. Rooms and suites range in size from entry level Elegant Essential rooms to the exceptionally large Penthouse Executive Terrace Suite, where you can drink your morning coffee overlooking the rooftops of Stockholm.

Retaining the banking theme, the hotel’s modern European restaurant is named after the female half of America’s most famous bank robbers, Bonnie. Located in the original bank’s hall, Bonnie’s has a six-metre-high glass vaulted ceiling, marble columns and green velvet seating. The menu includes classics such as Jerusalem artichokes with pistachios, grilled beef fillet with chanterelles and a glorious sharing desert of a smashed chocolate piggy bank, full of fudge, meringue, and vanilla parfait. The hotel has three bars. Papillion evokes the classic sophistication of a bank manager’s personal office, with plush carpeting, mahogany panelling, and art-deco inspired bar. For views over the city, head up to Le Hibou on the top floor, to drink cocktails at this elegant bar and terrace. Alternatively, if you’re looking for something more vivacious and vibrant, Sophie’s Bar is a cool Stockholm hangout. Guests have access to a well-equipped fitness area, with running and rowing machines, free weights, and Pilates equipment. The hotel can also suggest running routes and bootcamps for those wishing to exercise outside of the hotel.
