Ephesus

The ancient city of Ephesus, located near the Aegean Sea, is the best preserved classical city in the Eastern Mediterranean. At its peak, it was the largest Greco-Roman city in Asia Minor with a population of 250,000.

Ephesus

Ephesus has been extensively excavated and restored and it is fascinating to spend the day walking around the site, marvelling at the marble-paved Arcadian Way leading down to the magnificent Library of Celsus and the awe-inspiring theatre. It offers an incredible insight into life in Hellenistic and Roman times. Nearby Ephesus in the town of Selcuk, a visit to the remains of the Temple of Artemis (one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World) is a must, as is the Seljuk Archaeology Museum which houses a large collection of artefacts found at Ephesus.
